JOB PURPOSE

Perform molecular assays and ensure quality data delivery while working closely with the lab and breeding teams to meet key business deliverables.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, are to –

• Perform molecular assays through techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR assays with liquid handling systems on a high throughput genotyping platform
• Provide technical advice & guidance on routine troubleshooting of the issues and keep the team updated on the developments in modern genomics space to ensure smooth functioning of the lab
• Work with a group of research associates & ensure the smooth running of various stages of molecular assays such as Sample received, DNA extraction, PCR assays with liquid handling systems on a high throughput genotyping platform
• Engage partners on a daily/monthly basis to ensure clear alignment on the forecasts with actual samples received and data delivered
• Coordinate with internal team members such as system reliability to ensure 100% equipment uptime and on-time sample processing for a seamless delivery of data to end users
• Ensure necessary inventory and other consumables required for the efficient running of the lab are updated and procured
• Identify & plan process improvement opportunities, ensure associated SOPs, methods & Reports are prepared, and IP captured
• Effectively direct the lab technicians who are recruited to assist with specific tasks in the lab on a day-to-day basis
• Adopt & follow company safety policies, protocols, and procedures, and ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
• Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn and carry out diverse activities in modern genomics techniques
• Manage time to complete the all the activities as per the plan and actual schedule to be able to adhere to necessary KPIs

Required Qualifications –

• Master’s degree in Agricultural Science, Biological Science, Plant Breeding or related field with 3 years experience in plant biotechnology/genomics/marker-assisted breeding or fresh PhD with specialization in molecular markers technology or genotyping or marker-assisted breeding
• Experience of working in an industrial high throughput genotyping or molecular testing laboratory is preferred
• Understanding the molecular marker discovery, development and deployment to a breeding team is a bonus.

Competencies –

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex data and documents and communicate both oral and written to a non-technical audience
• Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to practical problems and to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
• Demonstrated ability to work with software such as MS office and genotyping and mol breeding related tools
• Highly personal motivation and self-management, ability to work in a team-oriented environment, both within the research setting and across functions.
• Ability to take up responsibility for meeting deadlines and making progress without direct supervision.
