POSITION PURPOSE

  • Works on a global team as an individual contributor with other Data Scientists and subject matter experts in the areas of scientific literature, competitor, and patent information. Focuses on leveraging text-based data to identify and generate insights.
  • Collaborates with teammates, subject matter experts, interdisciplinary scientists, IT and engineering professionals across the organization to solve critical problems and answer important questions that drive key decisions for our business.
  • Fosters game-changing ideas to produce sophisticated, intelligent optimization solutions and predictive models.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with Science, Competitor & IP Intelligence (SCIPI) team members on developing solutions for processing and visualizing large-scale text data by applying state-of-the-art methods, including text mining, natural language processing, machine learning and data pipelining.
  • Build machine learning capabilities for document classification, data normalization/standardization and data asset/terminology management.
  • Create and manage various automation tasks, generate data visualizations, create various applications to support improved agility and value generation within the team and for its key stakeholders.
  • Use mathematical models, machine learning algorithms, operations research techniques, and strong business acumen to deliver insights, recommendations, and solutions.
  • Support essential IT solutions related to SCIPI applications.
  • Collaborate with peers within Crop Science, IT and Pharma information management teams on shared data science projects.
  • Provide technical contributions in a fast-paced team environment to accelerate our efforts in building an analytics-driven product pipeline. Independently perform statistical analysis, computer programming, predictive modelling and experimental design.
  • Develop sustainable, consumable, accurate, and impactful reporting on model inputs, model outputs, observed outputs, business impact, and key performance indicators. Present compelling, validated stories to all levels of the organization, including peers, senior management, and internal customers to drive both strategic and operational changes in the business.
  • Build cross-functional relationships to collaboratively partner with the business and effectively network within the Data Science Community.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Bachelors degree with 2+ years of experience or Masters’s degree.
  • Educational preparation or applied experience in at least one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or another related quantitative discipline.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computational skills and level of experience acquiring, wrangling, visualizing and modelling data using Python (preferred) or other statistical and/or mathematical programming packages.
  • Experience with natural language processing and text analytics techniques, web scraping and automation, API utilization and development
  • Basic proficiency in predictive modelling—to include comprehension of the theory, modelling/identification strategies and limitations and pitfalls.
  • Basic proficiency in machine learning algorithms and concepts.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of software development best practices (Version Control, Code Documentation & Review, etc)
  • Experience with cloud technologies and systems is a plus (ie AWS, etc).
