Applications are welcomed for eleven (11) temporary positions i.e. Research Associate (03), Junior Research Fellow (06) and also Lab. Assistant (02) for the ‘Centre of Excellence’ research project entitled funded by Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Science and also Technology, Govt. of India entitled “Climate Change Impacts and also Adaptation for a Climate Resilient North East India” under the National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE) under the Principal Investigator Dr Ashalata Devi, Department of Environmental Science, Tezpur University. Appointment of Research Associates, Junior Research Fellows as well as Laboratory. Assistants will be at first for a period of one (01) year, which might be extended further upon satisfactory performance of the incumbent and co-terminus with the project or until further order, whichever is previously. The maximum duration is 5 (05) years.

Background of the project

:

Biodiversity of North East region is under extreme pressure from anthropogenic activities and natural phenomenon including climate change and changes in land-cover and land-use. Several climatic factors are playing a major role in the shifting of monsoon, habitats of species, a pattern of agricultural practices, the biological clock of species, and production of bioresources. The proposed project is focused on the assessment of the effect of changing climate and environmental conditions on sustainable livelihoods of people who are dependent on natural resources and biological diversity associated with different eco-climatic zone and habitats in North-East region. Precise capturing of relevant features of bioresources (viz., ecology, biodiversity, environment, livelihood practices, tradition and culture, economic activities and natural resources) at spatial and temporal (dynamic) scale is critically required for planning and execution of sustainable developmental plans including human and institutional capacity building for the Indian Himalayan  Region (IHR). With these backgrounds, it is proposed to undertake a robust, precise and multi-sectoral framework of research to address the inherent Spatio-temporal heterogeneity and potential impacts of climate change phenomena on the diverse habitats of the North-East region of India.

Research Associate (Post no. 1)

Essential qualification: The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Environmental Science/ Forestry/Botany/Zoology

Desirable: Expert in plant taxonomy as well as biosystematics/wildlife conservation. Experience in field data collection and also survey techniques; ecology and conservation of threatened flora as well as fauna in Indian Himalayan Region. Experience of handling in remote sensing & GIS software, Ecological modellings like MaxEnt Model and data analysis and interpretation.

Fellowship: Rs.47,000/- (Rupees forty-seven thousand) only per month. 8%HRA will be admissible as per rules if no accommodation is provided by the institute.

Age limit: Age of the candidates should not be more than 40 years as on the stipulated last date of receiving applications in response to the advertisement. The upper age limit may be relaxed as per Government of India rules.


Junior Research Fellow (3 Post)

Essential qualification: The applicant needs to have M.Sc. with a minimum of 55 % marks or equivalent CGPA in Environmental Science/Forestry/ Botany/Zoology/Ecology any other relevant disciplines with NET/GATE.

Desirable: Applicant with working experience/ specialization in plant taxonomy/entomology, forest ecology as well as willing to undertake extensive fieldwork in different forest types of Northeast India. Experience of handling in remote sensing & GIS software’s, as well as data analysis and also interpretation. Energetic, good analytical skills as well as efficient in working both independently and as part of a team will certainly be liked considering the job requirement.


Junior Research Fellow (2 Post)

Essential qualification: The candidate needs to have M.Sc. with a minimum of 55 % marks or equivalent CGPA in Agriculture/ Botany/Environmental Science with NET/GATE.

Desirable: Minimum 2 years of experience in handling experiments with agricultural crops in the field. Energetic, good analytical skills as well as capable of working both independently and also as part of a team will be favoured taking into consideration the job requirement.

Fellowship: Rs.31,000/- (Rupees thirty-one thousand) only per month. 8% HRA as per rules will be admissible if no accommodation is provided by the institute.

Age limit: Age of the candidates should not be more than 28 years on the stipulated last date of receiving applications in response to the advertisement. The upper age limit may be relaxed as per Government of India rules.
