MERCK INNOVATION CUP
As a participator in our Innovation Cup, you get a chance to connect with top students from around the world, work in teams to develop new innovative ideas for unmet medical need, and also develop a business case with support from experienced professionals. We are offering shared prizes of EUR20,000 for the winning team and EUR5,000 for the runner-up. And also to make things even more intriguing, options to implement the best business plans will be assessed.
The Innovation Cup summer camp takes place on 26th June – 2nd July 2021, near Frankfurt, Germany. Your travel, accommodation and also food costs are paid for by Merck.
HOW DOES MERCK INNOVATION CUP WORK?
As part of the Innovation Cup, we invite you to join a week-long summer camp, to work together in an extremely stimulating atmosphere.
- Work as part of a group to generate new ideas in the fields: oncology, immuno-oncology, autoimmunity, small molecules drug discovery, protein engineering and screening, digitalization.
- Assess your ideas from a technical and business point of view and build a convincing business plan
- Learn the essentials regarding R&D within the pharmaceutical industry
- Network with the brightest students from all over the globe
- Understand how products can be successfully discovered, developed, as well as brought to market
- Get to know Merck and find out about career options
A jury consisting of senior Merck researchers, as well as managers as well as external experts, will choose the winning business plans for first as well as second place.
On the last day of the summer camp, a conference with alumni of previous Innovation Cup editions will be arranged. Learn what alumni are doing today and also expand your network of top innovators.
Following the Innovation Cup, options to implement the most effective business plans will be evaluated. We will certainly keep you posted.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR MERCK INNOVATION CUP?
Applications are from postgrad students in the life sciences working towards a PhD in biology, medicine, biotech, bioinformatics, computer science, data science, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmacy, engineering or associated fields. Postdoctoral students are additionally welcome to apply, as are advanced MBA students or current MBA graduates with an interest in the pharmaceutical business and also a background in life sciences.

The team oncology will work on new innovative approaches for the targeted treatment of cancer with small molecules or proteins.
IMMUNO-ONCOLOGY
The team team immuno-oncology will work on new innovative approaches for the treatment of cancer via stimulating the immune system and overcoming the immunosuppressive environment of tumors.
AUTOIMMUNITY
The team autoimmunity will work on new innovative approaches for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as e.g. Lupus.
DRUG DISCOVERY TECHNOLOGIES
The team drug discovery technologies will work on new innovative approaches to discover and optimize new small molecular drugs or new innovative approaches to design, screen or optimize new protein drugs.
