We Invite Heads of Research Institutions, Universities, Medical and Pharmaceutical Colleges, to send in their nominations for the Sun Pharma Research Awards 2019. The Awards are for excellence in original research work in Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences by Indian scientists. Non-Resident Indian scientists are eligible for these Awards.
The 2019 Awards
There Are 3 awards. Each Award will carry a Trophy, Citation and a Cash Prize of Rupees Two Lakh Fifty Thousand (Rs.250,000).
MEDICAL SCIENCES: 2 awards.
– One each for Basic Research and Clinical Research.
PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES: One Award.
How to Apply:
You Are asked to submit your nominations through online at http://sunpharmasciencefoundation.net/spsfn/ (Open in Google Chrome) for your original research work. The website will be available to submit nominations from July 1, 2019, to August 30, 2019.
The Subsequent information ought to be uploaded:
- Complete Bio-data of this applicant
- Photograph
- List of 10 best papers of this applicant highlighting the important contributions in them briefly
- Awards already received
- Signed details of the excellence in research work for which the nomination has been sent (approximately 10 pages)
- Two specific publications/ research papers pertinent to the research work
- A statement that the research work under reference hasn’t yet been given an award in the past
- Signed Justification for sponsoring the nomination, and
- Signed Citation on outstanding research work by the nominator.
A Print copy of the complete set of uploaded nomination ought to be submitted to the office of the Foundation to reach by September 10, 2019.
Scope of those Awards:
MEDICAL SCIENCES
a. Basic Research
Basic Research would cover:
- Fundamental advances in any discipline of physical or bio-medical sciences which enhance the understanding and scope of Medical Sciences.
b. Clinical Research
Clinical Research would cover:
- Contributions For improved comprehension of the functioning of human body system or aetiopathogenesis, pathophysiology or molecular basis of disease processes, thus enhancing the comprehension of medical sciences and result in improvement in healthcare.
- Epidemiological studies on (a) prevalence of diseases, (b) impact of interventions on disease patterns in the community.
- Application Of advances in Laboratory Methodology to increase patient care.
- Advances In treatment and diagnosis of diseases.
- Advances in knowledge by the clinical evaluation of new and existing drugs, vaccines and diagnostic tests.
- Epidemiological studies on the secondary prevention of diseases by therapeutic interventions.
- The Number of awards in each category could change.
PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES
Pharmaceutical Sciences would cover:-
(i) New Drug Discovery and Development
- Design And development of new drugs
- Identification of new drug targets
- drug-receptor Interaction and characterization of receptors
- Novel Drug delivery systems
- Study Of the manner of action of drugs
(ii) Procedure Development and Applied Research
- Outstanding Achievements in molecular biology, biotechnology and fermentation.
This would also comprise Applied Research in Pharmaceutical Science covering inventions from the applied area with identifying features in:
- Development of new process technology for commercial production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates or excipients.
- Development of Pharmaceutical dosage forms with improved stability and/or bioavailability.
- Development of standardized dosage forms through the exploitation of rich natural resources such as from herbal sources and traditional methods of drugs.
- Applied Research in the region of biotechnology/fermentation technology.
Outstanding Contributions in a couple of areas of the aforementioned categories would be eligible for an award.
The Nomination Procedure:
- Indian nationals and Non-Resident Indian scientists working in India or overseas are eligible for these awards.
- Please submit your nominations online, from July 1, 2019, to August 30, 2019, and also send a print copy of this nomination together with all attachments to the office of the Foundation to reach latest by September 10, 2019.

- Mention The category of this award for which the nomination has been submitted
- Name of the Applicant
- Date Of Birth
- Citizenship (only Indian scientists, working in India and overseas are entitled to this award. Non-resident Indian scientists will also be eligible for the award).
- Complete Office & Residence Address with Tel., Mobile No. & email address of the applicant.
- Name Of the Nominator
- Complete Office Address with Tel., Mobile No. & email address of the nominator.
- Signed Justification for sponsoring the nomination (not to exceed 400 words) by the nominator.
After uploading the Justification letter from the sponsor of the nomination, the applicant will be provided with login identification and password to upload the following information.
- A. Complete bio-data of this applicant (not to exceed 3000 words)
- b. In order of importance, list of ten best papers of this candidate, highlighting the important discoveries/contributions described in them briefly (not to exceed 3000 words)
- C. Statement of research achievements, if any, on which an award has been received by the candidate. Please, also upload brief citation(s) on the research work(s) where the applicant has received the award(s) (to not exceed 2000 words)
- D. Details of this research work duly signed by the candidate, for the Sun Pharma Research Award is claimed, including references and illustrations (not to exceed 6000 words).
- E. Copy of one or two specific publications/research papers of this candidate, applicable to this research work on which the award is claimed.
- F. A signed statement from the applicant to the effect which the research work under reference hasn’t yet been given an award before. The applicant must also indicate the extent of the contribution of others associated with the research and he/she should clearly identify his/her achievements (not to exceed 500 words)
- G. Citation (summary) on the outstanding research work on which award is claimed in about 250 words signed by the nominator.
The Nomination ought to be sponsored by the HEAD OF THE INSTITUTE and or a person who’s competent to review the research work of the nominee.
- In respect to joint sponsorship for its award, the nominator is asked to check the research work done by all of the scientists is in the exact same scientific field and also the contribution made by every one of the scientists is obviously mentioned.
- Sun Pharma Research Awards are not for a particular research topic of a scientist, however, because of its general scientific contribution in his/her speciality, and so, the award will be considered as a one-time award for a scientist’s achievement. A scientist shouldn’t be considered for this award for a second time.
- The nominations will be evaluated by a Panel of Judges, comprising eminent scientists in the fields of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
- The Award Presenting Ceremony for the 2019 Awards is expected to be held during the first quarter of 2020 in New Delhi. The Awardees will be paid to and fro travel expenses (economy class) to New Delhi, along with additional expenses associated with their stay in New Delhi for a day or two.
