CALL FOR PRE-PROPOSALS
Artificial Intelligence Applications for Affordable and Accessible Healthcare –
Big Data and Genomics

BACKGROUND

Artificial intelligence (AI) intends to mimic human cognitive capabilities.  It’s bringing a paradigm shift to health care, powered by raising accessibility of healthcare data and accelerated the advancement of analytical methods. Often necessitating performing repetitive tasks and analyzing countless data – unstructured and structured, AI comes as an ideal way to cope with these challenges. Integration of AI approaches like machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing to handle the challenges of scalability and higher dimensionality of data, a better comprehension of genomics and

detect patterns in the data that makes sense and also to transform big data into clinically actionable knowledge is expanding.

Department of Biotechnology (DBT) announces this Call under the new initiative”Artificial Intelligence Applications for Affordable and Accessible Healthcare – Big Data and Genomics”.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the’Call’ is to seek pre-proposals from Team of Researchers who plan to create AI-based-solutions/tools to uncover clinically pertinent information hidden in the huge amount of data, guided by relevant clinical queries, which then can help clinical decision making on disease prediction and prognosis evaluation, early detection and diagnosis, therapy choice, patient monitoring and care, etc..

ELIGIBILITY

This call for proposals is open to all candidates normally qualified for DBT funding. The Team of Researchers should be multi-disciplinary with experience in the regions: Data Science (for example, the capability to take care of a large amount of data, having experience in building prediction tools including Computational Biology, Statistics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, etc.), High-throughput Omics and Clinical experience (by way of example, biologists, clinicians, specialist in a particular disease in question).

Researchers working in the industry aren’t qualified to apply alone but may apply with academic partners.

SCOPE

The pre-proposals may be focused on AI programs to be developed and employed to practices such As diagnosis procedures; treatment protocol development; drug creation/development; Personalized medicine; patient follow up; etc for priority diseases like Cancer, Tuberculosis, Cardiomyopathy, Diabetic Retinopathy, Genetic Diseases and Rare Disorders. The application should include information on: creation, quality assurance, storage, curation, annotation and Distribution of existing and/or new high-throughput data (as an example, genomics, Proteomics, metabolomics and such omics linked with clinical information) for AI-driven tool implementation. Relevant research Group/Institution/Organization/Hospital/s ought to be indicated As source if existing data will need to be accessed and leveraged with the goal.

Under this Call, DBT encourages usage of Current bioresources/ biobanks/ databanks/ datasets In such proposals.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The proposals will be considered for financing for 2/3/5 years. If the existing data/information is to be utilized, the proposal might be formulated for a brief duration.

MODE OF SUBMISSION

Pre-Proposals could be submitted in the prescribed Format, clearly saying’Pre-Proposal on Artificial Intelligence Applications for Affordable and Accessible Healthcare – Big Data and Genomics’ in the topic line of this email and send it to [email protected]. Your Questions, if any, can be addressed to Dr Suchita Nina, Adviser/Scientist’G’ at this exact same email ID. The final date of this call is 15th May 2019.

Subsequently, two hard copies must also be sent: Bio-informatics Division, Department of Biotechnology, Block-2, Room No. 707, 7Th Floor, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi110003. Please say’Pre-Proposal on Artificial Intelligence Applications for Affordable and Accessible Healthcare – Big Data and Genomics’ on the envelope. Hard copies should reach by 20th May 2019.
