NBRC conducts advanced research in diverse areas of the interdisciplinary field of neuroscience. Stop by our faculty research pages on the NBRC site to get a flavour of the ongoing work. PhD (Neuroscience)

Neuroscience is interdisciplinary in nature. So students from varied academic backgrounds may excel in neuroscience research. Our present pool of PhD students has a varied background like Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering and Medical Science.

You will undergo 1 year of teaching programme, learning the basics about the brain – from molecular to computational neuroscience and everything in-between. You’ll also receive an opportunity to rotate in a variety of labs for a closer look at the research work, and zero-in on which excites you the most.

Each of

the admitted candidates receives Junior Research Fellowship of Rs. 25,000 a month + HRA (in lieu of hostel accommodation) for its first two years. After two years, you’ll be qualified for Senior Research Fellowship of Rs. 28,000 a month + HRA (in lieu of hostel accommodation).

M.Sc. (Neuroscience)

This really is a two-year programme. 1 year of taught coursework programme is accompanied by a full-time research project during the second year in one of the NBRC labs. You might be eligible to switch to Integrated M.Sc.-Ph. D. programme of NBRC. Click here for more information.

Each of the students is provided with a fellowship of $12,000 a month + HRA (in lieu of hostel accommodation).

If you meet the minimum eligibility criteria for admission to our M.Sc. Programme, you need to appear for Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for both Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences 2018 (JGEEBILS 2018). Selected candidates will be called for interview.

PhD (Neuroscience)

Master’s degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer programs / noun / Veterinary Science / Psychology from a recognized Institute / University. You’re also eligible if you have done a minimum of four-year course leading to Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering / Technology / Medicine from a recognized Institute / University.

Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying exam are eligible to apply.

At least 55 percent (50% for SC / ST / PH candidates) marks or equivalent grade or grade point average from secondary (10th) assessment onwards is necessary.

Candidates must calculate their percentage up to 2 decimal points to determine their eligibility.

M.Sc. (Neuroscience)

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer applications / Pharmacy / Veterinary Science / Psychology / Engineering / Technology / Medicine from a recognized Institute / University.

Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying exam are eligible to apply.

At least 55 percent (50% for SC / ST / PH candidates) marks or equivalent grade or grade point average from secondary (10th) examination onwards is necessary.

  • Only Indian nationals are qualified for the above programmes.
  • Reservation / Concessions for SC / ST / PH candidates will be according to rules of Government of India / UGC.

Recognized National Entrance Examinations For PhD At NBRC:

PhD (Neuroscience)

  • Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for both Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences 2018 (JGEEBILS 2018).
  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2018/GATE-2019) in Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Electrical Engineering / Electronics and Communications Engineering / Computer Science and Information Technology / Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) (2019) (for Physics).
  • CSIR / UGC / DBT / ICMR evaluation for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Biology / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics. The validity of this fellowship ought to be such it can be activated on 31st August 2019 or later.
  • UGC-NET Lectureship qualified on/after Dec 2016.

According to their performance in almost any of the preceding qualifying exams, candidates will be short-listed for interviews to be held in NBRC.

M.Sc. (Neuroscience)

  • Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for both Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS)

M.Sc. Programme applicants will be screened via JGEEBILS only.

Candidates will be short-listed for a two-tier interview according to their performance in the JGEEBILS exam.

Important Deadlines:

  • NBRC Application (Online) start date: 26th October 2018
  • Last date of receipt of application (Online / Offline) at NBRC: 31st March 2019
  • Last date of receipt of requests for the hard copy of application form: 1st March 2019
  • Interview for the M.Sc. program: May 2019
  • Interview for the PhD program: May 2019
