TALENT is a doctoral programme co-funded from the European Union, with 74 PhD scholarships in the natural and life sciences to be granted and completed over the next five years.

The TALENT programme is currently located at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen. The Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen — or SCIENCE — is Scandinavia’s biggest science research and education institution covering a broad spectrum of research areas with 4,500 employees and 9,500 BSc and MSc students in 11 branches and the Natural History Museum of Denmark.

Programme Areas:

The programme is bottom-up, which means that you’re free to specify your own projects depending on your interests, provided that they’re aligned with departmental interests and there’s qualified oversight on offer at one of our departments.

When applying for a scholarship, you have to choose among these programme areas for the evaluation of your application.

A unifying theme for all of the research is that all departments strive towards scientific excellence in addition to contributing to satisfy the industrial and societal challenges of the times like climate change, sustainable and beneficial energy supplies, biological production, environmental challenges, food safety, lifestyle-related ailments and data security.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants for the TALENT programme should fulfil the following eligibility criteria to be eligible for a scholarship:

  1. At TALENT’s call deadline (1 October 2018), the candidates should not have resided or carried out their main activity of studies or work in Denmark for over 12 months in the past 3 years. Time spent on getting refugee status under the Geneva Convention, mandatory national service or brief stays such as holidays aren’t taken into consideration.

2. Must at the TALENT call deadline (1 October 2018) be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) in the research careers and shouldn’t have been granted a doctoral degree.

3. Have to hold a relevant MSc degree at the time of applying. But candidates, who don’t hold an MSc degree, are also considered eligible if their credentials along with CV equivalent those attained on an MSc. This might be in the form of five years of full-time undergraduate and postgraduate education OR four years of full-time undergraduate education together with relevant courses, fieldwork, scientific publications or conducted research.

How to Apply:

The 74 scholarships in the programme will be awarded through several applications rounds during the next two years. The deadline for the first call for applications is October 1, 2018.

Each application round will be formally announced with all material for applicants available two months before the deadline.

The application should include the following enclosures:

  1. Cover/motivation letter

4. Declaration of mobility

5. Documentation of academic degrees obtained: diplomas have to be in English or an officially accepted translation has to be included.

6. Duplicate of English test score sheet in the time of applying (for applicants with English as their second language, cf. requirement regarding English level).

7. Two recommendation letters (max. 1 page of 2,500 characters each): you ought to be the master thesis supervisor (if applicable), or other senior scientists which you’ve worked closely with.

Applications should be completed and submitted through the University of Copenhagen’s Job Portal prior to the call deadline. Applications sent via email or so on won’t be considered. An applicant may only submit 1 application for review.
