The official notification for the Indo-Japanese Joint Project on “Establishment of Young Researcher Fellowship Programme 2018-2019” has been announced by The Indian National Science Academy(INSA), New Delhi. INSA is inviting Indian nationals to apply for the Young Researcher Fellowship Programme 2018-19 as per the details below:

Applications are invited from prominent Indian scientists/ researchers holding Ph.D. degree in science (received over the previous 6 years ) and less than 40 years old and having routine positions in Indian established S&T Institutions/ Colleges in almost any area of natural science (basic and applied), engineering science, math, statistics, health and multi-disciplinary research in science and technology to see Japan for a period of two to 6 months beneath Indo-Japanese Joint Project on”Establishment of Young Researcher Fellowship Programme 2018-19″ supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The Indian National Science Academy(INSA), New Delhi invites applications from excellent Indian young scientists/ researchers to apply for the Indo-Japanese Joint Project on “Establishment of Young Researcher Fellowship Programme 2018-2019” coordinated by INSA and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).  This programme is supported by the Department of Science &

; Technology, Government of India.

Aims:

The most important aim of the young researcher exchange program would be to contribute to the progress of Science & Technology as well as the benefit of society at large. This fellowship programme is intended to encourage Indian scientists/researchers to go to Japan and work with top researchers in major Japanese engineering and engineering institutions/universities/organizations for an interval of 2 to 6 months. They’re Meant to facilitate long-term science, innovation and technology cooperation between India and Japan by

  • Developing researchers’ experience in global cooperation and fostering long-term relationships between Japanese and Indian researchers;
  • Developing the investigators’ leadership abilities as potential’science ambassadors’ for India; and
  • Providing a catalyst for prospective India-Japan research cooperation

Qualification:

(a) The applicant ought to be Indian citizen, living in India, and also be a Postdoc and/ or a scientist/ faculty member functioning in a regular capacity within an UGC (University Grants Commission) recognized University/ Deemed University/ Academic Institute or National Research & Development Laboratory/ Institute and actively participated in research work in the associated areas.

(b) Applicants should have been awarded Ph.D. degree in science (received over the previous 6 years) and must be less than 40 years old according to the last date of submission.

(c) Applicants shouldn’t have availed any abroad fellowship in past 3 years.

(d) The applicant must have been approved to operate in an institute/laboratory in Japan to be visited. Such approval ought to be encouraged by a letter of invitation by the sponsor Institution(s) commenting on the planned alliance.

(e) The applicant must submit a comprehensive programme of their collaborative research work to be conducted in consultation with the host scientist(s) in Japan.

(f) All applications must be forwarded through proper channel from the employer/Head of this Institution.

(g) Selected candidate will be expected to sign Service Bond (Format-6) to the parent institute for a period of three (3) years.  Candidate should assess detail with their parent institute/university prior to applying. Proposals will be evaluated on the scientific merit of this research, the demonstrated achievements of the applicant in the context of their career up to now, the appropriateness of this job being performed in Japan, the value of this anticipated outcome of this research endeavor to Indian Science, and if the trip will enhance Indian accessibility to international leading-edge science and technology. He/She should propose a collaborative research project, or a particular activity, that has been created in conjunction with host scientist(s) in Japan. The grant scheme isn’t to supplement or expand study or sabbatical leave that’s being conducted abroad. The proposed trip should commence or consolidate long-term collaborations and facilitate the evolution of the candidate’s career.

Number of Fellowships: 10 Fellowships

Field of research:

Participation is available to all areas of Science & Technology/any discipline of natural science (basic and applied), engineering science, math, statistics, health and multi-disciplinary research in science and technology is going to be considered.

Applicants participated in multi-disciplinary analysis are encouraged to apply but should note that proposals for study entirely in humanities, behavioral or social science aren’t eligible to apply.

Duration of Fellowship: 02 to 06 Months

The duration of the fellowship has to be for no less than 02 months and a maximum of 06 months. All travel must start on or before 31 January 2019.  Extension of date of departure from India past the expiry date won’t be entertained.

Fellows are responsible for making their own travel, visa, insurance and lodging arrangements, in consultation with the host institution as suitable.  The fellowship doesn’t include support for bench fees and managerial expenses.

  1. Application form according to INSA format (dully filled and forwarded through appropriate channel).
  2. Copy of Ph.D.. Degree (self-evident ).
  3. Letter of Support/NoC in the parent Institute/University and certifying that currently candidate isn’t serving any bond.
  4. Letter of invitation by the Japanese host.
  5. List of best 10 publications.
  6. Short CV (maximum.1 webpage ).

Reporting Requirements:

Successful applicants have to submit Visit Report/s (Format – 1 & 2) in two(two ) months after returning to India. It’s expected that the report doesn’t indicate how the cooperation has improved.

1 complete set of hard copy of application form duly endorsed and forwarded by the Head of this Institution/University should reached the following address on or before the final date.  The soft copy of the whole application (only PDF file only) ought to be emailed to: [email protected]. Please include Name and Area of Research in the Topic line of email. The soft copy filename ought to be saved as: Name of Applicant_Area of Research. Incomplete applications will be rejected and no additional correspondence will likely be made. Applications received after the final date won’t be considered in any instance.

The final date for receiving complete applications is 15 September 2018
