Goal:

Early Career Research Award scheme intends to offer quick research assistance to the young researchers that are in their early career for pursuing exciting and advanced research in frontier regions of science and technology.

Nature & Duration of Support:

• The Early Career Research for the purpose of the program identifies the first assignment of this applicant at a standard capability in a recognized academic institution or national lab or some other known R & D establishment in India.
• The Early Career Research Award is a one-time award and includes a study grant up to Rs. 50 Lakhs (excluding overheads) for an interval of 3 years.
• The research grant covers equipment, manpower, consumables, manpower, travelling and contingency besides overheads.

Qualification:

• The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
• The applicant must maintain PhD degree in Science or Engineering or M.D or M.S degree in any field of medicine.
• The scheme encourages young researchers at the onset of their independent research careers. The applicant, therefore, must hold a normal academic/research standing in a recognized academic institution/ or national labs or some other recognised R&D associations.
  The expression”Regular” from the context of ECRA describes one or more of the following:
  1. People that are appointed by the associations against the sanctioned post. Such positions are regularized/confirmed following the probation period is finished.
  2. People that are appointed in a tenure post, but are very likely to be revived after the close of the tenure
  Not Eligible: Research Associates, Guest Faculty, Visiting Scientist, Project Fellows, Faculty members whose contract is renewed annually; and people that are hoping to draw a salary in the strategy.
  (In situations where it isn’t covered in any of the above mentioned, SERB has the right to ascertain the eligibility)
• Faculties recruited through UGC-Faculty Recharge Program are qualified to apply. INSPIRE Faculty, Ramanujan, and Ramalingaswamy Fellows are eligible to apply if they’ve been absorbed/appointed to a normal position. If these fellows aren’t absorbed/appointed at a standard position and therefore are receiving the fellowship in addition to research grant in the fellowship, these fellows are eligible to apply provided they have at least three and half years of tenure staying in the time of submission of application.
• The upper age limit for the ECR award is fixed in 37 years, SC/ST/OBC /Physically challenged and girls candidates can apply up to 40 years.
• Co-PIs Aren’t allowed at the Early Career Research Award.
• Applicants of NPDF, ECRA and EMR will submit their proposal just once a calendar year in one or more one of these schemes.

Selection & Mode Of Application:

• The choice will be based on the recommendations of an Expert Committee which will be included by the Board. If desired by the Expert Committee, the candidates may be called for private discussion.
• The Call for applications will be produced twice annually (January and July) and will be advised via the website www.serbonline.in and www.serb.gov.in. The application form along with a proper research proposal highlighting the study work to be undertaken Ought to Be submitted online via the Web Site www.serbonline.in

Termination and Transfer of this Job:

• If any Principal Investigator wants to finish the undertaking, he will inform the SERB throughout the host institute instantly with appropriate justifications. The executing institute shouldn’t incur any cost by the date of conclusion of this undertaking or the date of resignation of PI. The institute may even arrange for submission of files mentioned previously.
• SERB reserves the right to terminate the Early Career Research Award in any point if it’s convinced that appropriate progress isn’t being produced or the grant hasn’t yet been utilized correctly.
• In the event of projects sanctioned under Early Career Research Award, the SERB enables transfer of their job together with assets into the new institute, even if needed. The job cannot be transferred to some other person/s. The initial host institute won’t incur any cost on the job after alleviating the PI, without the permission of the SERB.
