CALL FOR PROPOSALS-2018

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology. Government of India, New Delhi along with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) run the India-Japan Cooperative Science Programme (IJCSP) to encourage bilateral scientific cooperation between Japanese and Indian scientists. Applications are invited from qualified Indian researchers /scientists to publish suggestions for Joint Research Projects and Joint Workshops/Seminars below IJCSP

Natural Systems: Life Sciences and Bioengineering

1. Molecular and Chemical Biosciences
2. Biotechnology and Bioengineering
3. Medical Biosciences
4. Cognitive Science

Who can Apply:

  • The combined application must comprise one Indian and one Japanese Principal Investigators, who’d be responsible for technical in Addition to the administrative co-ordination of this project and its regular scientific and fiscal reporting into the DST/ JSPS respectively.
  • The Principal Investigator (PI) and other researchers in India ought to be scientists/ faculty members working in routine capability in UGC recognized Universities/ Deemed Universities/ Academic Institutes and National Research & Development Laboratories/ Institutes. It’s preferred that a part of this project team may be called Co-PI.
  • The Japanese PIs have to be full time researchers employed in Universities or other research institutions recognized by JSPS. Further details in regard to Japanese participants JSPS site (www.jsps.gov.jp) could be known.

Please be aware that on the Indian side candidate currently executing two projects financed by the International Division of DST isn’t qualified to submit the project against this particular call.

The length of Project:

The length of the projects would be around 2 years. (Visits to be finished within a year and 10 months).

Kind of service available:

  • The sending side would offer the global travel price and getting side will offer local hospitality including lodging prices, per-diem and local travelling. DST provides the following support under the Programme:
  • For Indian Researchers — Price of Global airfare to and from the designated research Place, visa charge, airport taxes, international medical insurance premium for its accepted trip length and airport transfers in India.
  • For concerted workshops/seminars to be coordinated in India, neighborhood travel price of Indian participants and coordinating costs may also be considered for assistance according to DST criteria.
  • For Japanese Researchers — Price of lodging in a guest home, per diem and national travel expenditures in India including airport transfers according to DST criteria.

Guidelines for Proposal Submission:

1. Proposals

  • Duly filled related application forms distributed by Department of Science and Technology (also available on the sites www.dst.gov.in in India and also www.jsps.gov.jp in Japan) that are approved by the heads of those associations of their coordinators.
  • Curricula vitae of both research groups.
  • Letter of intent exchanged between the coordinators of this project.

2. Submission

  • The deadline for the submission of proposals is 5th September, 2018.
  • The Indian researchers can download the suggestion formats from sites www.onlinedst.gov.in and should submit completed application form and all appropriate details. Proposals have to be submitted to DST via the e-application system supplied at www.onlinedst.gov.in. Indian Applicants may also be asked to send 3 hard copies (1 original + two copies) to DST by 5th September 2018 through the appropriate channel. It Needs to Be guaranteed that application with identical title has been submitted by His or Her Japanese counterpart to JSPS by due date.
  • Proposal submitted just on one side Won’t be considered.
  • Japanese Principal Investigators will need to submit proposals with a fitting joint research project / seminars strategy to JSPS concurrently. Japanese Researchers are asked to contact JSPS due to their application submission period, documents to be submitted etc.

Assessment of Proposals:

  • Proposals will be assessed independently by the Department of Science and Technology in India and also JSPS in Japan with their own procedures. Conclusion towards financing will be mutually agreed dependent on the gradings (on 1 to 10 scale) obtained on the 2 sides. Coordinators are very likely to be educated in March/April 2019 about test outcomes. The collectively approved jobs are likely to be started in June 2019.
  • Please be aware that just collectively submitted suggestions to DST and JSPS will be contemplated.
