Summary:

The source of life is one of the fantastic unsolved scientific issues of our age. To advance our understanding of the procedures that caused the development of existence, the Simons Foundation established the Simons Collaboration about the Origins of Life (SCOL). The cooperation supports creative, innovative study on subjects like the astrophysical and planetary context of the roots of existence, the maturation of prebiotic chemistry, the gathering of these initial cells, the debut of Darwinian evolution and the oldest signs of life on the young Earth.

In the last ten years, a few of researchers have developed a”systems” approach to origins-of-life study that joins areas, institutions and technologies in fresh collaborations. It’s very likely that answers to significant scientific questions may arrive within the next ten years, which makes this a substantial moment at the changeover that leads to an influx of new talent, new instrumentation and a growing worldwide community of research workers.

Opportunity:

The cooperation is currently inviting applications for postdoctoral fellowships to encourage independent study on subjects linked to the roots of existence at a couple of labs or research institutions in any country. To learn more on this Simons Collaboration about the Origins of Life, please click here.

The collaboration seeks to engage the thoughts and imagination of researchers across the globe by supplying a range of opportunities for postdoctoral fellows to interact with colleagues from various disciplines and applications, both online and in person, such as webinars, workshops and yearly symposia. Since fellows are expected to participate fully in most SCOL occasions, these chances are intended to not only strengthen the cooperation but also supply the most effective mechanism for attracting a developing origins-of-life community collectively. Applications from all origins-related areas are encouraged.

Qualification:

Candidates should have obtained their Ph.D. or equivalent degree within five years of their fellowship’s start date. Applications could be submitted from scientists in domestic and foreign nonprofit associations; private and public institutions, like colleges, universities, hospitals, labs and units of local and state authorities; and eligible agencies of the national government. There are no citizenship or nation requirements. Preference will be given to postdocs that aren’t in currently financed SCOL Investigator labs.

Funding:

Appointments continue for three years, contingent upon ongoing research on questions pertinent to sources of life assessed by annual reports. The yearly stipend will be $62,000 USD. The stipend may be supplemented from the host institution or the mentoring PI.  There’ll be around a $10,000 allowance for health insurance or equivalent insurance from the nation where the fellow’s institution is situated, for the fellow and his or her family. The allowance is just for health insurance and no other advantage (s). Any unexpended medical insurance funds could be reallocated into the study allowance. An yearly allowance of up to $20,000 can be used for equipment, publication costs, small equipment and other research-related expenses. Of the 20,000 allowance up to $6,000 of it could be utilized for research-related traveling as well as $3,000 of it for transfer costs of the individual and their household to the host establishment. Relocation costs must be in accordance with the policies of their host establishment.  Payment can’t be made straight to fellows. No indirect costs may be obtained.

Policies and procedures governing this award can be seen in the next hyperlink .
