Under the Special Scheme for the North East, R&D proposals with strong Biotechnology component, including but not limited to omics approaches, are invited in the field of Biological Sciences from Indian Scientists, working on a regular basis, at Universities/Academic/Medical/Research Institutions in any of the North Eastern States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura & Sikkim) in collaborations with Scientists from other National Institutions from any part of the country including within North Eastern States, in any of the broad areas:

  • Medical/Healthcare Biotechnology (Experimental Medicine, Molecular Oncology, Innovative Diagnostics & Therapeutics, Molecular Immunology, Biomarkers, Medical Microbiology, Vaccine & Drug Discovery)
  • Agricultural Sciences (Genetic Engineering, Molecular Markers, Medical Diagnostics, Tissue Culture, Agriculture Microbiology, Food & Nutrition)
  • Medicinal & Aromatic Plants
  • Animal & Aquatic Biotechnology
  • Basic & Modern Biotechnology (Bioinformatics, Theoretical and Computational Biology, Nano-technology, Bioengineering, Stem Cell Biology etc.) and
  • Environmental Biotechnology

Well drafted proposals containing high quality research contents, identifiable deliverables for societal needs will be screened for further evaluation. Proposals for commercialization of technologies already developed may also be submitted with viable business models.

The goal of

this scheme is to promote & strengthen Biotechnology R&D activity in the NORTH EASTERN REGION (NER) through a joint venture (Twinning Program). However, the “Centre of Gravity” of the research activity should remain in the North East with at least 60% of the total budget of the project strictly allocated to the NER institutes. Please ensure that you write at the top of the application “Twinning projects for the NE – 2017” & mention the broad subject area at the appropriate place. The proposals will be evaluated by the committee of experts and the short listed projects may be required to make the presentation before the expert committee. In addition to the usual staff and contingency, adequate budgetary provision should be made for visits of PIs & staff from NER to the Collaborating Institute & vice versa. Principal Investigator should not have more than 3 projects as a PI, and as Co-PI should not have more than 5 projects under this scheme.

How to Apply:

The detailed proposals may be submitted through DBT eProMIS at http://dbtepromis.nic.in/Login.aspx. Applicants should submit under “Submit Proposal Under Call” opting the area as NER-BPMC. The details of call for proposal should be specified as “Twinning projects for the NE-2017”. Two hard copies of the proposal signed by all the PIs and Co-PI’s duly endorsed by the respective Heads of the Institutions should also be sent to Dr. T Madhan Mohan, Adviser, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), NER-BMPC, A-258, 1st Floor, S.B. House, Defence Colony, New Delhi – 110024, to be received by 30th June, 2017.

Applications received after this date will be summarily rejected.
