Subject : Invitation for Research Pre-Proposals for Funding by NASF
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research invites Pre-Proposals for projects on research proposals on basic and strategic research in the frontier areas of sciences that are relevant to agriculture (including livestock and fishery sciences) in the following major strategic priority areas. The specific areas under each major area are listed in the website: http://www.icar.org.in/nfbsfara/index.html.
Strategic Areas:
i. Genomics, transgenics and nanotechnology in plants, animals and fisheries, ii. Abiotic and biotic stresses and, quality traits in plants, iii. Abiotic and biotic stresses and quality traits in animals and fisheries, iv. Management and utilization of natural resources in agriculture, v. Mechanization and energy in agriculture, vi. Research in Social Sciences
Research projects will be selected through a three stage competition: Pre-Proposal, Full Research Proposals developed from the pre-proposals and presentation before the committee(s).
Who can submit a proposal:
Proposals of projects of three to five years of duration can be submitted by any institution: public, private, or civil society with proven and relevant research capacity. The institutions/ organizations submitting project proposals need to
be recognized by governments (Central & State) as a scientific organizations. Any one institute can submit not more than six (6) Pre-Proposals as the lead institution. A University or Deemed to be University of ICAR (IARI, IVRI, NDRI, CIFE) can submit up to fifteen (15) Pre-Proposals. When these number are exceeded, the Pre-Proposals will be automatically rejected on last-come first-out basis. A scientist who has been awarded a project of NASF as the Principal Investigator (CPI) and the project is likely to continue beyond 1 st April 2018 should not submit a Pre-Proposal in response to this call. However a CCPI (Cooperating Centre PI) of a project can submit a new Pre-Proposal. He should not have more than one project from NASF (two including the proposed one). The proponents should ensure that they are not involved as PI/ CCPI in more than two extra mural projects (three including the proposed proposal). Persons with RMP positions (viz., Directors, VCs) are not eligible to apply for projects as PIs/ CCPIs. The Head of the organization need to verify/certify towards this.Components of expenditure to be funded
The details on types of expenditure eligible for funding are given on the website. Multi-institutional and multidisciplinary comprehensive project proposals costing about Rs.2.00 crores or more will be preferred. Attempt to unjustifiably make the budget reach Rs. 2 crores will draw negative valuation. Brilliant concepts of projects but of smaller budget than Rs. 2.00 crores may also the considered in exceptional cases.
