Walk-in/Online Interview for the Temporary Posts of Senior Research Fellow, Project Associate-I, Research Associate, and Project Associate-II
National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. NABI aims to catalyse the transformation of the Agri-food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science, leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, NABI is involved in research activities for biofortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. The Food and Nutritional Biotechnology division at NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis

Post I
Project Title: “Exosomes from plants: Isolation and characterization and their effects on adipogenesis” (NABI Core)
Principal Investigator: Dr Vikas Rishi, Scientist G
Position: Senior Research Fellow (One position)
Duration: The appointment is for one year.
Essential Qualifications:
Postgraduate degree in basic science or graduate/postgraduate degree in a professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following:
a) Scholars selected through National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC-NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), GATE, and GPAT
b) Selection process via National-level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.
Two years of research experience as JRF.
Desired Experience:
- Experience in advanced molecular biology and biochemical methods and techniques.
- Experience in animal cell culture protocols is desirable.
- Ability to analyse transcriptome and small RNA sequencing data from extracellular vesicles.
Emoluments: Rs. 42,000/- per month (plus HRA if hostel accommodation is unavailable in NABI) (GOI OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26/6/2023).
Age Limit: 32 Years (Relaxation is admissible in case of SC/ST/OBC/PD as per GOI Instructions)
Responsibilities: Selected candidates will work on the isolation, purification, and characterization of extracellular vesicles from plants.

Project Title: “Transfer and Evaluation of Indian Banana with Pro-Vitamin A (PVA) Constructs” (GAP 02)

Duration: The project is extended till Sept 2026 and follows the terms and conditions of the funding agency.
Essential Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / MVSc or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent.
Desirable:
- Prior theoretical/practical understanding of the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway, plant tissue culture, plant genetic engineering, and biochemical and molecular biology techniques.
- Project Associate-I will assist in the collection and analysis of data related to the agronomic yield and phenotypic performance of transgenic banana lines.
Emoluments: Rs. 31,000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No.SR/S9/Z08/2018 dated 30.01.2019).

Project Title: “Development of Nanomaterials-based Biosensing Platforms for Food Contaminants” (NABI Core)
Principal Investigator: Dr. Vanish Kumar, Scientist-C
Position: Research Associate I (RA-I) (One)
Duration: The RA fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 1 year only, with possible extension based on research progress and performance.
Essential Qualifications:
Ph.D. in any branch of Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or relevant field with at least two first-author peer-reviewed research publications in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journals directly related to the project.
Emoluments: Rs. 58,000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023).
Age Limit: 40 years (Relaxation is admissible in case of SC/ST/OBC/PD and women candidates as per GOI instructions)
Desirable Experience:
- Experience in the synthesis of advanced nanomaterial-based biomimetic receptors for food contaminants (e.g., heavy metal ions, pesticides, and pathogens), development of nanomaterial-based biosensing platforms, and implementation of biosensors for point-of-care diagnosis.
- Relevant research publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Responsibilities:
- Selected individuals will play an important role in advancing this research, particularly through planning, designing, and performing experimental work. This individual will work on developing sensing platforms by modifying nanomaterials’ surfaces with desired receptors and evaluating the performance of the developed materials or developing and evaluating different types of nutritional fermented drinks.
- Candidate is expected to help coordinate the project and other existing projects in the lab.
- Candidate will also assist in the collection of samples from the field, preparation of reports for funding agencies, and writing manuscripts for publication.

4. Project Title: Prions as Stress Sensors in Plants: Role of DNA/RNA Binding Proteins in Regulating Stress Memory (HGK-IYBA project)

Position: Project Associate II
Duration: Six months (Till 15 February 2025)
Essential Qualifications:
Postgraduate degree in Basic Science or Graduate/Postgraduate in Botany, Microbiology, Agriculture, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, and other fields in Life Sciences
Selected via a process described through any one of the following:
a) Scholars selected through National Eligibility Tests – CSIR UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE.
b) The selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.
Minimum of two years of research experience is essential.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in techniques such as cloning, protein purification, yeast-two hybrid, and using CRISPR/Cas system-mediated rice transformation will be preferred.

Desirable Qualification: Research experience in molecular biology, microbiology, and plant physiology.

- All interested candidates may appear for a Walk-In-Interview at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located at Knowledge City, Sector-81, Mohali – 140306, Punjab, on 27.09.2024 at 09:00 A.M. along with the duly filled application form available on the website www.nabi.res.in. - Incomplete application forms and applications that are not in the proper format may be summarily rejected.
- The applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website.
- Candidates applying for more than one option can give their preference in the same application by ticking multiple options. No need to submit a separate application form for each option.
- Candidates should ensure that the information mentioned in the application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted, no further request regarding any changes/information in the application form will be considered.
- The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 27.09.2024.
- The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed.
- All the candidates are requested to appear for a Walk-In interview with an application form, experience certificates, publications, and original degree certificates and transcripts.
- Original mark sheets, certificates, awards/fellowships, etc., must be presented for verification at the time of the interview, and attach one set of attested copies of the documents with the application form.
- No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
- Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to the disqualification of the candidate(s).
- Candidates should strictly adhere to guidelines issued by the World Health Organization and Centre Govt/State Govt on Covid-19.
- In the event of special circumstances, candidates may request the project investigator (via email) to conduct their interviews online. Such requests must be submitted well in advance, preferably at least one week prior to the scheduled interview date. However, the final decision will be taken by the selection committee to ascertain the special circumstances and allow the candidate(s) for an online interview. The Institute reserves the right to conduct the interview in online/offline mode.
- Interview results will be published on the NABI website.
Note: Permission for an online interview may be sought from the PI at least one week prior to the interview date, and a valid reason must be given for the same.
