We are looking to hire a New Product Development Lead Specialist in our Nutrition teambased in Gurgaon:

Main job purpose

The current job description is for New Product Development – Lead Specialist position reporting into New Product Development Lead HFD Foods Category, Gurgaon.

JOB SUMMARY

  • The incumbent will be responsible for driving new product development for foods (Biscuits, RTD , Cereal Bars, Gummies ) as part of HFD Foods Innovation Agenda.
  • The Incumbent will be responsible for partnering with business teams and stakeholder (Procurement, Regulatory, Central quality, manufacturing and packing Sites etc) to develop different alternate vendors and new raw materials as per business requirements.
  • The Incumbent will be responsible for processing projects / work streams to create novel formulation-led and process-led product innovations which meet consumer needs, and hence grow Unilever’s health drink food (nutrition) businesses.
  • Ensure that new technology platform/processes are developed in a way that delivers in accordance with the agreed product and consumer requirements for the given portfolio.
  • He / She will be providing inputs for all technical upgrades on process improvements in supply chain with an aim to minimal/zero impact on existing product Develop formulation(s) suitable for new technology platforms. Suggest and support for establishing the optimized process and process parameters for new technology for existing formulations Ensure that due support is provided to supply chain and existing business to improve product quality & Cost.
  • Support site to site product transfers stabilizations through providing key insight of product and its characteristics Ensure compliance to Internal Unilever protocols, External regulatory environment while developing product/process and technology solutions with respect to commitment to safety, environment, claim support, specification management etc.

You are a goal orientated Process/formulation engineer/ Executive who is passionate about creating processes for new products and with a track record of delivering projects.  At Unilever we value commercially astute, digitally savvy people who can connect science and technology with the diverse needs of consumers all over the business.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Significant personal expertise & Strong Scientific understanding, ability to do risk assessment and building mitigation plans in the processing of complex nutritional products.
  • Working experience (1-3 year minimum) in foods manufacturing technologies Product/Process/Technology development expertise & development experience in Nutritional powder/food products.
  • Ability to develop good tasting fortified product using various drying technologies like tray drying, spray drying, vacuum band drying and dry blending.
  • Good understanding of biscuit manufacturing technology and science, understanding of milk and protein technology, and handson exposure on various evaporation and drying technologies.
  • Basic understanding of nutrition science, RDA, nutrient safety, Nutritional powder standard and analytical and stability sciences Strong digital skills including SAP & PLM

Professional skills/background:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Chemical/Process Engineering, Dairy/Food Technology/Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Masters or Ph.D.  preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience with Ph.D./ Master’s or 2+ years with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Good understanding of the Nutritional health powder and wellness category.

General skills/competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills & influencing ability, both internal as well as external.
  • Strong networking, organization, planning skills and information management.
  • Ability to deliver an agenda within a complex Unilever context & Convergent with Business process improvement techniques

How did you ensure a smooth transition and maintain product quality? Answer: Certainly. In a previous role, we were upgrading the drying technology for our nutritional powder. To minimize disruptions, I collaborated with supply chain and manufacturing teams to develop a phased transition plan. This approach allowed us to ensure product quality and stability while implementing the new technology, leading to a seamless upgrade without compromising existing product quality.

Question 4: The role requires strong scientific understanding and the ability to assess risks and develop mitigation plans. Can you provide an example of a project where your risk assessment skills played a crucial role in ensuring successful product development? Answer: Of course. In a project involving the development of a fortified food product, I identified potential challenges in maintaining taste and texture during processing. By conducting a thorough risk assessment, I implemented measures to mitigate these challenges. This proactive approach helped us anticipate and address potential issues, resulting in a product that met quality standards and consumer preferences.

Question 5: Collaboration and communication are essential in a cross-functional role like this. How do you manage relationships with stakeholders such as supply chain, quality, regulatory, and R&D teams to ensure smooth project execution? Answer: Building strong relationships is key to project success. I foster open communication by actively engaging with stakeholders, sharing updates, and addressing concerns promptly. In a recent project, I facilitated regular cross-functional meetings to align everyone’s efforts. This approach not only ensured smooth project execution but also allowed for real-time issue resolution, ultimately leading to timely product development and launch.
