Applications are invited from talented and motivated candidates for working in recently sanctioned Grant-in-Aid and industry sponsored projects in the area of environmental monitoring & impact assessment. The number of positions are tentative and may vary at the time of interview.

Applications received by mail will be scrutinized based on certain criteria and only such shortlisted candidates are eligible as per criteria will be asked to attend the interview using the online mode. The details of the interview and date will be sent to such candidates by e-mail on or before 17:00 hrs of 13th September 2023 (Wednesday).

Essential Qualification: M.Sc. Environmental Science/ Botany/Zoology/ Medical Biotechnology/Microbiology/ Organic Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry (or) B.E. Biotechnology

Desirable: Experience in analysing water/wastewater, marine ecological parameters, environmental impact assessment study, ecological modelling and knowledge in ISO 17025: 2017 standards. As a part of the project, extensive fieldwork may be required.

Monthly remuneration:

  1. ₹31,000/- + HRA to scholars who are selected through (a) National Eligibility Tests – CSIR UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE (OR) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions
  2. ₹25,000/- + HRA for others who don’t fall under (i) above

I hold a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, which directly meets the essential qualification criteria for the position. Additionally, I have gained practical experience in analyzing water and wastewater samples, conducting ecological studies, and assessing environmental impacts during my academic journey. My coursework and hands-on projects have equipped me with a solid foundation in ISO 17025: 2017 standards and ecological modeling, making me well-prepared to contribute to this project.

2. Question: The role involves extensive fieldwork as part of the project. Can you describe an instance where you successfully managed and conducted fieldwork in a similar context, and how you navigated challenges that arose during the process? Answer: Certainly. Through careful planning, adaptive strategies, and effective communication with the team, I was able to overcome these obstacles and successfully gather valuable data. This experience underscores my ability to handle fieldwork efficiently.

3. Question: The project requires proficiency in ISO 17025: 2017 standards. Can you discuss your familiarity with these standards and how you have applied them in your previous work? Answer: Certainly. ISO 17025: 2017 standards are crucial for ensuring accurate and reliable laboratory testing and calibration. I have actively engaged with these standards during my laboratory-based research projects, where I adhered to strict quality control protocols for sample collection, analysis, and reporting. By maintaining meticulous records, following standardized procedures, and participating in inter-laboratory comparisons, I ensured the validity and precision of results in accordance with ISO guidelines.

4. Question: The position offers two different remuneration levels based on selection criteria. Can you clarify which category you fall under and explain the basis for your eligibility? Answer: I fall under the category of scholars who have been selected through National Eligibility Tests, specifically CSIR UGC NET. My performance in this competitive examination, including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), demonstrates my proficiency and knowledge in the field. This rigorous assessment has validated my qualifications and expertise, making me eligible for the higher remuneration of ₹31,000/- along with HRA.

5. Question: As part of the project, you may be involved in ecological modelling. Could you provide an example of a past experience where you employed ecological modelling techniques to address a specific research question or challenge? Answer: Certainly. In a previous project focused on ecosystem dynamics, I utilized ecological modelling to study the impact of climate change on a local wetland ecosystem. Through data integration and mathematical modelling, I simulated various scenarios to predict shifts in species composition and ecosystem services under different climatic conditions. The outcomes of this study not only provided valuable insights but also underscored my ability to leverage ecological modelling to inform decision-making and environmental management.
