Applications are invited for admission to M.Sc programme in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Mathematics for the semester commencing from August 2023.
Starting from the academic year 2023-24, IISER Bhopal is offering a 2-year Master’s program in Biotechnology to eligible Bachelor’s degree holders aspiring to achieve a strong foundation in research and analytical skills in core areas of Biotechnology. This program aims to broaden understanding of the interplay between microbial processes and the molecular basis of the functioning of living organisms and biosystems. These two years of Master’s degree programs consist of foundational, advanced, elective courses and research projects mentored by our faculty members. The program is designed to empower students with modern techniques for research, preparing them to lead independent carrier in both industry and academia.
Eligibility
Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree (3/4/5 years) in any relevant area of Biology/Biotechnology /Agriculture/Veterinary/Pharmacy/Fishery Science/ MBBS/BDS and an equivalent degree in a similar or allied discipline with any biology subject.
- GEN/OBC/EWS: Minimum of 60% marks OR a CGPA of 7.0 on a 10-point scale in the last qualifying examination.
- A relaxation of 5% of marks will be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PD categories.
- Marks / CGPA will be admissible as per the degree awarding institute and will not be interchangeable. If both are awarded by the degree-awarding institute, the higher one will be considered.
- Admission to reserved category candidates will be as per the Government of India rules.
- Non-submission of eligibility proof latest by the time of admission will disqualify the candidate from getting admission.
- A valid JAM and/or GAT-B score is required: Prospective students should submit/ update the Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B for 2023) and/or Joint Admission Test for Masters, Biotechnology (IIT JAM 2023) within the first week of the release of the score.
Course structure:

Out of the four semesters, the first three semesters will cover mandatory foundation, subject-specific and elective courses. Students are also expected to complete rigorous laboratory practical courses and interdisciplinary courses from a discipline like Humanities to improve scientific communication skills. The final semester will be dedicated to research project work.
Selection Procedure
Selection of applicants for admission to the M.Sc. programme will be based on a written test and/or oral interview of the short-listed candidates.

- Candidates who are appearing or are about to appear for final examinations of the qualifying degree program are eligible to apply for the M.Sc. program. However, if selected, admission to the M.Sc. program would be conditional upon their completing the qualifying degree with the defined marks criteria, before joining the Institute.
- Selection will be based on Academic records and online entrance test (date will be announced later) results.
- Relaxation of eligibility criteria for SC/ST and PD applicants will be as per Government of India norms. Candidates belonging to the reserved category will have to submit relevant certificates if selected.
- Applying to the program does not automatically guarantee that a candidate will be offered a seat.
