Recruitment of Consultant and Research Associate at National Tiger Conservation Authority on a Contractual basis

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is a statutory body established in 2005 uncle, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). Tile main objective of this Authority is to strengthen tiger conse1vatioo in the country under the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The role of the NTCA is to provide ce1mal and technical consultations to the tiger-bearing states and tiger reserves through advisories/ normative guidelines, based on an appraisal of tiger status, and ongoing conservation initiatives, within the ambit of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 and guidelines of Project Tiger/ NTCA. Additionally, NTCA also leads the country-wide assessment of the status of tiger, co-predators. prey and habitat once

in four years.

To assist the authority and further support the expansion of its works, applications are now invited for the contractual engagement for the following posts.

Essential Qualification – Master’s degree in Wildlife Sciences/ Zoology / Botany / Life Sciences/Biological Sciences/Forestry / Forest Management/Environmental Sciences/ Environmental Management/ Conservation Biology/ Statistics/ Remote Sensing and GIS / Geoinformatics/ Earth Sciences/ Agriculture Science/ Natural Resource Management

Desirable Qualification – Preferred 3 years of experience/aptitude after Master’s in a) Animal ecology, field surveys, sampling and study design, data collection through basic field techniques, basic data analysis, b) basic knowledge of statistical, GIS and open source software.

Consolidated Monthly Remunerations – Rs. 40,000/ –

Terms of Engagement

  1. Duties and responsibilities: To assist the Authority with Data collection and the compilation from Tiger Reserves; Scientific data archiving and analysis; Consultation with states and tiger reserves; Writing reports, popular articles, and plans, map preparation; Examination, scrutiny and analysis of projects received from Regional Offices, states and tiger reserves; Communication and social media networking; Training and coordination with all relevant stakeholders; Awareness generation. The job occasionally requires extensive travelling to forest interiors, wildlife areas and arduous terrains across India.
  2. Period of Engagement: The post is temporary and purely contractual. The initial tenure of engagement would be for a period of one year and extendable up to three years subject to performance and the presence of the professional in the Authority is highly useful. The period of engagement will be assessed on half yearly basis and specified so for continuation if required and the performance is found satisfactory.
  3. The monthly emoluments arc consolidated. There may be an annual increment as per extant rules depending upon the performance of the candidate after evaluation by a Competent Audiority.
  4. The headquarter will be in New Delhi with occasional field visits to the remotest forested areas in die country, as and when required.
  5. The contractual appointment would be on a full-time basis and the appointed person will not be permitted to take up any other assignment during the period of engagement wid1 the NTCA. As the post is contractual, in no case is any request for promotion or absorption as a permanent employee shall be entertained.
  6. Leave: The selected candidates will be entitled to Eight (8) days of leave during the contractual period of one year subject to prior approval of the reporting authority. Unveiled leave in a tenure of a single year will not be carried forward to the next tenure.
  7. No extra remuneration shall be allowed for working beyond office hours or on
    Saturdays/Sundays/Gazetted Holidays. Compensatory leave in such cases shall be at the
    discretion of the Divisional Head.
  8. The attendance shall be marked in the Biomeuic System.
  9. The internal reports/data made available to Consultants/ Research Associates during his/ her engagement in the Ministry shall not be used by the Consultants/Research Associate for publishing research papers/ books or otherwise. The Ministry has the prerogative to initiate disciplinary action or any other action, as deemed fit on the nature and level of guilty found if any in this context.

Mode of selection

  1. The applicants will be screened based on the eligibility criteria. The short-listed candidate will be selected based on an online written essay followed by a personal interview.
  2. The online written essay will be for 40 minutes and comprise a one-page (300-400 wonts) essay based on the knowledge of Ecology, Conse1vation Biology, Sampling techniques, Life Sciences, Conservation Genetics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, GIS, Remote Sensing, Geo-informatics and their application in wildlife conservation and relevant conservation issues (50 marks).
  3. The candidates that qualify for the written essay will be notified through email of the personal interview.
  4. The application should be duly filled in the prescribed format, duly signed and should be accompanied by self-attested copies of documents on educational qualifications, research experience, UGC/ CSIR/GATE certificate (if any), extracurricular activities, date of birth, mark sheets of all examinations, community certificate (if sought relaxation as per Government of India rules) and relevant publications.
  5. All original documents/certificates must be produced at die time of joining for necessary verification. If there will be any discrepancy in the document submitted at the time of verification the selection of the candidate will be cancelled.
  6. The final selection of the candidate will be in accordance with the performance in the written test and interview and in order of merit as decided by the Interview Committee.

How to Apply

  1. Candidates may submit their application in the prescribed format as per Annexure I. Completed application form along with all relevant documents (soft copy) can be emailed to [email protected]. The last date of receipt of the application is 21 days from 20th January 2023 of the upload of the advertisement on the website of www.ntca.gov.in.
  2. No other mode of application will be accepted and applications will be summarily rejected.
  3. Candidates shall specifically mention “Application for the post of Consultant/Research
    Associate” in the subject of the email.
  4. An email will be sent to the registered email address of shortlisted candidates containing a list of 4-5 essay copies, the candidate has to select one topic and write a 300-400 words essay on the same. The date and time of the essay test will be communicated to the candidates well in advance.
  5. The candidate has to choose, write and submit the essay on the same day.
  6. Late submission will not be considered and in case of multiple submissions, an essay submitted first within the mentioned time period will be considered for evaluation.
  7. Shortlisted candidates will be communicated the details of personal interviews by email in due course.

General Terms and conditions

  1. Incomplete applications/applications sent by Post or in person/ applications received after the submission deadline are liable to be rejected.
  2. Mere fulfilment of the minimum advertised qualification and experience requirement DOES NOT automatically entitle an applicant to be called for a written test/interview. The decision of the Authority in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of the application, and mode of selection will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained from any individual or his/ her agency.
  3. At the time of the verification of original documents or even after selection, if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to willfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, such an applicant will not be considered for selection and due action will be taken.
  4. The Member Secretary, NTCA reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason thereof.
