NOTIFICATION
Applications for admissions to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in the
prescribed form are invited from the eligible candidates for the academic year 2021-22.
Modes of Ph.D Programme –
A candidate may register for either a full-time or part-time PhD programme.
A full-time PhD programme shall be undertaken by an eligible candidate who will work
on a regular basis in the department till the submission of the thesis.
Part-time PhD programme shall be undertaken by In-Service (Regular Full-time
service) /Professional Candidates. The part-time PhD candidates who are employed on
a full-time basis in which he/she has reported have to submit i) NOC from the Head of the
Institution /Organization, (ii) Service Certificate issued by the Employer; and (iii) Letter of Undertaking by the candidate at the time of provisional registration for PhD. Only full-time employee of an Institution/Organization is allowed to undertake part-time Ph.D. Programme. A teacher fellow (On QIP/FIP Programme) shall work on a regular basis in the Department/Research Centre during the period of Fellowship.
A candidate shall submit a duly filled-in application form along with necessary documents to the Chairperson of the concerned PG Department on or before 09.05.2022.
Regulations
Eligibility for Admission
Any candidate who has obtained a Post-Graduate Degree from a recognized university
including foreign candidates ( sponsored by their Embassies) and sponsored candidates
securing a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-1/Differently-abled candidates) at the Post-Graduate Degree shall be eligible to apply for PhD. Programme.
In the case of candidates appointed on regular basis prior to 31st March, 1992 as Teachers, Librarians and Physical Education personnel in Colleges and University Departments, the
minimum marks shall be 50% (45% for SC/ST/Cat-1/Differently-abled) provided they
(employees) are continuing in service at the time of submission of application for Ph.D
registration.
If the results of a Master’s Degree are declared in the form of Grades/Credits/ Cumulative
Points in their marks cards /transcripts, such Grades/Points shall be converted into
percentages to assess the minimum eligibility criteria as per the Grade point norms
specified by the respective qualifying examination’s marks statement.
Entrance Test
All the applicants possessing the eligibility for their P.G. Degree as specified in Regulations 1.1 and 1.2 shall appear for Entrance Test.
However, (a) Government-sponsored foreign candidates, (b) candidates who have cleared
UGC/UGC-CSIR/JRF /NET /SLET(Kamataka )/GA TE/GRE/M.Phil( admitted through an
Entrance Test) shall be exempted from Entrance Test.
Candidates who have cleared UGC/UGC-CSIR/JRF/ NET ISLET (Kamataka)/ GATE/ GRE/M.Phil (admitted through an Entrance Test) willing to appear for the Entrance Test
shall apply separately by paying prescribed fees.
Maximum Marks for Entrance Test – 100 marks
Nature of Questions – Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).
Syllabus for Entrance Test – Research Methodology and Cognate/Core subjects of the
P.G. Department conducting Entrance Test.
Number of Questions – 100 questions, each carrying 1 mark: 50% of the questions shall
be from Research Methodology and the remaining 50% from cognate/core subjects.
The 50 Questions on Research Methodology shall consist of data interpretation, language comprehension and test of reasoning. The other 50 Questions shall be based on the current PG syllabus of cognate/core subjects.
Duration of Entrance Test – 120 minutes.
Venue of Entrance Test – Exam Section and Dr. R.C.Hiremath Institute of Kannada Studies, Kamatak University, Dharwad.

Instructions for submitting applications with fees challan –
- The application form and the bank challan shall be downloaded from the website
www.kud.ac.in and the duly filled-in application form, along with all the enclosures
(including the original copy of the challan for the Application Processing Fee) shall be
submitted to the Chairperson of the concerned PG Department at Karnatak University,
Dharwad. - The fee details are as under –
i Application fees : Rs 2,200/- (Rs. 1,100/– for SC/ST/Cat-I full time candidates only).
ii Rs. 4,400/– for foreign students.

Fees once paid cannot be refunded. - The candidates have to remit the prescribed fees to State Bank of India /Canara Bank of
KUD by downloading the appropriate challan (online/offline). The Account No. and
IFSC codes are mentioned in the challans. The candidates should attach the 2nd and 3rd
parts of the challan along with the application form. Duly filled in the application form along with all the necessary enclosures should be submitted to the Chairperson of the concerned P.G. Department, K.U. Dharwad. - Please refer to circular No.KU/Aca/PG/Ph.D/ASO/2022-23/05 dated: 12.04.2022
