About MKU

Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), a state university founded in 1965, has been designated as University with Potential for Excellence in ‘Teaching, Research, and Outreach’ and is currently accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council

School of Biological Sciences (SBS)

The UGC recognized the School of Biological Sciences for continuous support through with snaeshid programme such as COSIP, DRS, COSIST, DSA (Phase I, II and III) and Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) in Functional Genomics (Phase I, and II), Centre with Potential for Excellence in Genomic Sciences (CEGS) (Phase I, and II), and also through Networking Resource Centre in Biological Sciences (NRCBS Phase I &II).

UGC, New Delhi has created Networking Resource Centres in various disciplines at leading University Departments/Research Institutions in India. The major objectives of the centres are to promote collaborative research, by providing access to advanced research facilities and to impart training to young researchers working in the frontier areas of their respective subjects. SBS was recognized as a “Networking Resource Centre in Biological Sciences (NRCBS)’’ in the year 2008.

UGC-NRCBS

UGC-NRCBS, MKU, with its state-of-the-art infrastructure, is functioning as a resource centre for training and research collaborations. The activities of the UGC- NRCBS include: i) organizing summer and winter schools, ii) guidance for Ph.D. students from other Institutes on experimental trouble shooting and research methodology, iii) support for Ph.D students who are in need of equipment / laboratory facilities and iv) strengthening the collaborative research initiatives in Biological Sciences among Universities and Research Institutes, v) Train the post graduate students of other Institutes on experimental trouble shooting and research methodology. The theme of the proposed “Visiting Fellowship Programme for Research Scholars” is offered by UGC NRCBS (Phase II), School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai – 625 021.

About the programme

Objectives

The objective is to provide state-of-the art facilities to research scholars working in various institutes. Research scholars will be selected based on their area of interest and the possible collaboration with one of the host scientists in the UGC Networking Centre.

Nature of the Course

The participants can conduct part of their Ph.D. research program in the Networking centre. The programme will be research oriented rather than techniques oriented and emphasis will be given to complete a part of their research program. Outcome of the results may
be published with joint authorship with the host scientist.

Eligibility

Candidates who have registered for Ph.D from various disciplines of life sciences are eligible to apply.

Application and Selection Procedure

Interested candidates are requested to fill the ‘Registration form’ given in the link https://forms.gle/nX74vaYnEChn33tg9 on or before 23.02.2022. The selected candidates will be informed through e-mail during Fourth week of February, 2022. There is No course fee to attend the Programme. The applicant must submit a SOP and letter duly forwarded by the head of the Departments of Colleges and Research Institutes. Certificate will be provided upon successful completion of the programme.

The selected Candidates will be provided three-month fellowship of Rs.7,500 (Rs.2500 Per Month) along with consumables as per UGC/University norms.

TA/DA and Accommodation

  • No TA/DA will be provided for the candidate during the internship by the centre.
  • Food and Accommodation will be arranged for the candidate upon prior request in MKU Hostels with nominal charges.
