Name of the Post – Bioprocess Data Scientist

Sartorius Data Analytics, a market leader in advanced analytics and provider of the Umetrics® Suite of Data Analytics Solutions, is on a strong growth path driving new innovative solutions in the field. It currently has a unique opportunity for a Data Scientist to support the Sartorius sales teams and drive customer applications in China. As a Data Scientist, you will have a strong customer focus to help drive innovation and growth. Combining your experience in the Biopharma, Pharma or Chemical industry with knowledge of applied statistics, such as MVDA, DOE, MSPC, PAT, QbD, Model Predictive Control (MPC), AI/Machine Learning, and Mechanistic/Hybrid modeling.

The Bioprocess Data Scientist will be responsible for helping deliver data analytics solutions for clients. The job duties are to use the expertise to support sales teams to understand our clients’ business needs and identify opportunities where the analytics services of Sartorius can add value. The Technical Sales Support Data Scientist articulates with a detailed understanding of our propositions their value

most effectively to our clients.

What you can look forward to

  • Working with and training teams of scientists and engineers from some of the largest and most recognized biopharma, chemical, and manufacturing companies in the world
  • Using the Umetrics® Suite of software to build data-driven models supporting the design, monitoring, and control of complex products and processes
  • Supporting Sartorius sales teams as a subject matter expert (SME) in pre-and post-sales activities related to Data Analytics and the Umetrics® software suite
  • Assisting customers in solving business-related problems using advanced data analytics
  • Serving as SME point-of-contact and support customer and Sartorius-internal analytics projects
  • Creating quantitative multivariate models for online and at-line process analytical technology (PAT) equipment.
  • Coordinating work with data scientists and business colleagues in other regions for customer accounts with a global presence
  • Training customers on the use of Umetrics® software suite for MVDA and DOE
  • Supporting marketing & product development activities
  • Maintaining contact with customers to assure project momentum and to discover additional opportunities
  • Creating whitepapers, technical documents, application notes, reports, and new training materials
  • Reporting feedback on software to support the development of next-generation tools
  • Attending and presenting at conferences, seminars, and forums
  • Developing and cultivating strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders
  • Being a key member of a highly talented, international team of data scientists

Skills and experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (engineering, life sciences, chemometrics, biotechnology, etc.); Masters degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2-5 years work experience within Biopharma, Pharma, or Bioprocessing preferred; relevant experience within the chemical, food, medical device, or other process industry also considered
  • Minimum of 2-5 years’ hands-on experience of applied data analytics methods, such as MVDA, DOE, MSPC, and AI/ML; additional experience with PAT, QbD, Model Predictive Control (MPC), and mechanistic modeling is a plus
  • Previous experience with Umetrics® software (MODDE®, SIMCA®, SIMCA®-online) is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or other scripting languages a plus
  • Data wrangling experience preferred
  • Knowledge of data historians, MES, and LIMS systems is a plus
  • Previous experience in spectroscopy and chromatography, including the development of real-time data analytics solutions for quantitative and qualitative characterization.
  • Previous work experience in a GMP/FDA-regulated environment is a plus.
  • Teaching, consulting, and project management skills preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills required
  • Talent for effectively combining technical skills, business strategy, and a “customer-first” attitude required
  • Comfortable working independently from a home office and willingness to travel (~30%)
  • Strong identification with Sartorius core values: sustainability, openness, enjoyment
  • Fluency in English
