Job Description –

IFF’s Health & Biosciences division has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Application Development Scientist in our Grain Processing Business. Our enzyme and yeast products are critical biocatalysts in our customers’ processes, enabling them to create renewable biofuel, feed, and food products.

Your Focus –

• As a part of our Application Development team, you will work across functions to develop and support products and processes.
• The role will see you providing technical and functional leadership opportunities and will play a key part in supporting our evolving industry and customer base. You have vast industry experience and brings a solid foundation in bench and pilot-scale work, chemical engineering fundamentals, and data science.
• The role is based in Hyderabad, India and will report to the Regional Application Development Leader – Grain Processing.

How you will contribute –

• This is a hybrid role and will involve hands-on work at bench and pilot scales.
• Mining large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization, and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action.
• Provide technical leadership on process simulation, and the application of diverse enzymes in bioprocesses.
• Contribute to the technical development of enzyme and yeast products during the commercialization process, application performance evaluation, marketing material generation, scale-up, and post-launch support.
• Support enzyme and yeast product trialing and optimization efforts by the running bench- and pilot-scale experiments, and assaying customer samples using a variety of biochemical and analytical techniques.
• Lead and support pre-commercial trials of enzyme and yeast products at customer sites.
• Provide mentorship for functional group members and partner across regions and functions to advance solutions.
• Work with global team members to advance project goals.
• Interact with cross-functional teams including R&D, Marketing, Sales, and Legal.

Job Requirements

What you will need to be successful

• PhD degree (with 2+ years of experience) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, BioEngineering, Agriculture Engineering, Cereal Science, or a related field.
• Experience with enzymes and/or yeast relevant for corn and starch processing and ethanol fermentation (amylases, proteases, fibre-hydrolysing enzymes, lipases, etc).
• Experience using a variety of data mining or data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using and creating algorithms, creating and running simulations. Familiarity with statistical computer languages Python will be a plus.
• Strong technical foundation, ideally including industrial biotechnology processes, and the application of enzymes in an industrial setting.
• Experience performing bench-scale experiments to evaluate the use of enzymes and/or yeast in industrial biotechnology applications.
• Experience with analytical techniques relevant for monitoring bioprocesses (HPLC, biochemical assays, compositional analyses, etc).
• Proficiency with statistical analysis software such as JMP, Spotfire, or Minitab.
• Strong interpersonal, partnership, and leadership skills with the ability to work independently, manage time effectively and drive projects to completion.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% across ASPAC, including to customer commercial production facilities.
