Responsibilities:
- Implementation of project activities “Modernization of Rice Breeding Programs”. Oversee and coordinate daily activities to support modern breeding experiments, demonstrations, trials, surveys, and other best CoPs at NARES.
- Participate aid disseminates modern breeding principles and strategies to NARES partners.
- Help in documenting all modernization components such as Product concept and product profiles, optimizing breeding pipelines, gap analysis, improvement plans, HD and mid-density genotyping, phenotyping, Genomic selection, mechanization, automation, digitization & data management and implementation of modernization plans at NARES locations.
- Play an active role in providing regular feedback on project developments and activities at NARES to the Senior Development Specialist.
- Aid in organizing designed training and other technology transfer activities with project and NARES staff.
- Coordinate field activities with NARES partners, data management & analysis to be sent for the report, journal articles and presentations.
- Perform any other pertinent duties as assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
- Participate in project development for regional preference and resource mobilization for IRRI-SA Hub and partners involved in rice improvement
- Participate in capacity building and training activities to improve the capacity building of partners in the region towards innovative breeding approaches and biofortification
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Essentials:
- PhD in a Plant Breeding/ Genetics/ Mol. Biology/ Biotechnology with at the very least 3 years of post-PhD experience.
- Experience in Quantitative Genetics and Genomics. Proven research experience on coordination, delivery of strategic plans and working with network projects.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is essential
Desirable:
- Respectable publication record, as evidenced by research papers in refereed journals
- Experience in writing and managing grants
- Aptitude to work collegially and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural environments.
General:
This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position for 3 years (36 months) and renewable depending on the performance of the incumbent, funding availability, and also the Institute’s ongoing requirement for the position.
