Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is a part of the inter-disciplinary Biotech Science Cluster at Faridabad in the National Capital Region. THSTI is designed to be a dynamic and interactive organization with a mission to conduct innovative translational research across disciplines and professions to accelerate the development of concepts into products to improve human health. THSTI is a recognized R&D institute of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi offering doctoral programs in
biomedical science research.
Applications are invited for the THSTI-JNU PhD program under biomedical research.
The thematic areas of ongoing research are:
- Infection & Immunology
- Maternal & Child Health
- Non-Communicable Disease
- Multidisciplinary Clinical & Translational Research
- Mathematical modeling of biological systems

a. Educational qualification as well as fellowship requirements:
Applications are welcomed from the eligible candidates according to the criteria mentioned below:
- Ought to have a Master’s degree in any branch of biomedical/ life sciences (including vet
science, public health, pharmaceutical sciences), bioinformatics, chemistry, computer science or maths or a B Technology in Biotechnology from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks or its equal (e.g.: grade B in the UGC 7-point scale).
- Need to have certified in the JRF exam of CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT (category I only), NBHM or AYUSH-NET which provides fellowship for their PhD program.
Note: Applicants having AYUSH-NET fellowship will conduct research work in the fields associated with AYUSH only
Candidates appearing in the final qualifying examination may also apply. However, they will be required to fulfil the above academic/ fellowship criteria at the time of joining the PhD program i.e. by 15th January 2021.
A relaxation in marks/ grade during Master’s Degree for those belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled or any other category will be applicable as per the UGC notification, 5th May 2016 or subsequent notification in effect at the time of interview.
Application procedure: Candidates fulfilling the above eligibility criteria need to apply online by 3rd January 2021 by using the link https://thsti.res.in/phd_programme.php.
Incomplete applications in any respect will be summarily rejected and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
Application fee: Non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500 for General and OBC candidates, and Rs. 250 for SC/ST/Women/differently-abled candidates should be paid through online mode.
Names of shortlisted applicants will certainly be announced on our website by 12th January 2021.

Final selection will certainly be made based upon the applicant’s performance in the interview and the list of selected candidates will be published on the THSTI web site within one working week after the interview.
Fellowship: Students selected for admission to the PhD program and holding fellowship from any of the above agencies have to activate their own fellowship.
No. of seats: A maximum of 14 candidates may be selected this session.
Reservations: 27% seats for OBC (non-creamy layer), 15% seats for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 3% seats for a differently-abled person are reserved for candidates belonging to these categories. SC/ ST/ OBC candidates are required to submit certificates in respect of their claims from authorized officers as notified by the Government for the purpose from time to time. The differently-abled (with minimum 40% disability) candidates are required to submit a certificate from authorized Medical Doctors/ Hospitals indicating the extent of physical disability.
Academic program: Selected students will have to undergo PhD course work for 2 semesters starting from 15th February 2021. Those having successfully completed the PhD course work requirement will be recommended to JNU for PhD registration. For the award of the doctoral degree, the candidate will have to complete all the requirements as per the JNU rules.
Fees: Admission fees, annual fees, registration fees or any other fees levied by JNU shall be payable by the student.
Hostel: Selected students will have the option of shared hostel accommodation in lieu of their HRA.
