Ph.D. / Direct Ph.D. / M.S. (by Research) ADMISSION @ IIT MADRAS FOR JULY 2020

• The application window for July 2020 admission will be open from 1st March– 31st March 2020.
• Candidates can make an application for July 2020 admission from 1st March– 31st March 2020 for admission to M.S/PhD/ Direct PhD program. The applications gotten from November 2019 to February 2020 will be likewise considered for July 2020 admission except applications which were currently considered against Anytime admission mode. The candidates that have applied under Anytime admission mode need not apply again if the concerned department to which you have applied has not considered the applications under Anytime admission mode. For confirmation, please contact the concerned department.
• Applicants who have completed their U.G/ P.G degree may apply now for July 2020 admission to M.S./PhD/ Direct PhD programme.
• Candidates that are in their last semester/year of their U.G/ P.G degree may apply now for July 2020 admission to M.S./PhD/ Direct PhD programme.
• Please ensure to see the eligibility criteria in the admission brochure (SI. No. 4, 5 & 6 in Page No. 8 – 20) before applying.
• Candidates applying under External category for research program may confirm whether the current organization/industry/institution in which you are working is having R & D recognition from IIT Madras or else certified by DST/ DSIR. Click here for even more details.
• Applicants applying under the Part-time category for research programme may confirm whether the current organization/industry/institution in which you are working is situated within commutable distance from IIT Madras.
• For candidates applying under various categories of Research admission which requires adequate work experience, the experience will be reckoned based on the last date for submission of on the internet application. The work experience acquired after completion of the qualifying degree (i.e. U.G/ P.G degree as per eligibility criteria) will be only considered as valid.

Applications are invited from eligible applicants for admission to PhD and M.S. (by Research) programs under regular/part-time/external schemes of IIT Madras. Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA) funded by MHRD in addition to fellowships from various other funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, DST, ICMR, AICTE etc. are offered for those that have qualified for these schemes. Shortlisted candidates will be called for “test and also interview” or “interview” by the Selection Committees of the respective departments from time to time. Candidates can apply to pursue the Direct PhD programme in Engineering/Sciences/Management/ Humanities & Social Sciences stream after their Bachelor’s Degree. For more details consisting of eligibility criteria for applying to Direct PhD programme, refer the Research Admission Brochure [S.No.5.1.2] Meritorious M.S scholars under Engineering/Management stream with minimum CGPA of 8.0 are eligible to upgrade to the PhD programme in the exact same department as well as will get 2 degrees (M.S.+ PhD) on completion of the programme.

JULY 2020 ADMISSION

• Application window for July 2020 Research Admission will be open from 1st March – 31st March 2020.
• Applications received from November 2019 to February 2020 will be also considered for July 2020 admission except those which were already considered against Anytime admission mode.
• Applicants that have appeared for GATE 2020 examination will be permitted to apply for July 2020 Research admission only after commencement of GATE 2020 results (subject to qualifying) as well as scorecard download option is enabled.
