About Doctoral Research: Keeping in view the long tradition of academic excellence, the following institutional goals are laid for doctoral research:

* To build up a deep and comprehensive comprehension of fundamentals and state of the art of knowledge in the chosen field through courses and self-study,
* To develop synergy between creativity, innovation as well as the frontiers of knowledge in the selected field of study,
* To develop the ability and skills to perform independent research and development to face the challenges posed to mankind on particular problems, and
*To develop skills to identify new possibilities from the given Indian societal context and also to undertake research and development through one’s own initiatives.

The Degree of Doctor of philosophy is allowed for research work in regions recognized by the Academic Departments / Centres of this

Institute. The research work will be an original work characterized either by the discovery of facts, or by a new approach towards the interpretation and application of facts, or development of equipment making a different advancement in instrument technology. It will evince the candidate’s capacity for critical examination and sound judgment and shall represent an original contribution to the existing knowledge. The Institute can be known among the centres in the nation for PhD programmes under QIP.

Facilities for registering for the PhD programme as a part-time candidate will be also available.

How to Apply:

The candidates are advised to read each and every instruction offered in this Information Brochure very carefully before applying Online.

1. The prescribed qualifications and expertise will be the minimum required and also the mere fact that a candidate possesses exactly the same doesn’t entitle him/her to be called for an interview.
2. Departments / Centres of this Institute reserve the right to limit the number of applicants to be called for interview to some reasonable number, on the basis of credentials and/or experience.
3. Provision exists to apply in a couple of departments/centres. Thus, a candidate may submit their application in a couple of departments through a single online application.
4. All entries should be cautiously made while applying online. IIT Roorkee won’t be responsible for incorrect entries. Candidates will be solely responsible for the correctness and authenticity of the information/documents provided in the online application.
5. Eligibility of candidate with respect to qualification & experience will be calculated/considered with regard to the last date of the online application.
6. Online application submitted by the applicants will be considered final and binding. Requests for making a correction in the online application shall not be entertained.
7. Online application found incomplete in any form will be summarily rejected. No correspondence/communication will be entertained in this regard.
8. The final date for submission of online application will not be extended. Accordingly, no request shall be entertained for accepting the application following the previous date. IIT Roorkee won’t be responsible for technical malfunction when making the online application/payment of the fee. Thus, candidates are advised to submit their application well in advance without waiting before the previous date.
9. Online applications will be scrutinized, applicable documents checked/confirmed for their authenticity.
10. Admission will be provided subject to availability of chairs, faculty from the Specialization and the Institute Assistantship.
11. Students will likely be regulated by ordinance/ regulations in vogue.
12. The Institute has the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission for the candidate who’s found admitted to a course to which he/she isn’t entitled, being unqualified or ineligible in accordance with the statues and regulations in force.
13. Disputes if any, arising out of or relating to any matter at all, regarding the aforesaid will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Roorkee Court.
14. The Institute reserves the right to check the antecedents or documents submitted by the candidate at any time during their period of study. If it’s found that the documents submitted by the candidate aren’t genuine, then their admission shall be terminated, and also disciplinary/criminal proceedings will be initiated.
15. Simply applying for / being shortlisted/appearing for the interview / written test / or following processes don’t suggest that a candidate will inevitably be offered admission in IITR. No request for contemplating the candidature aside from where applied will be entertained.
16. Candidates are advised to fill their active and correct email addresses in the online application as all correspondence will be made by the Institute through email only. Test/Interview schedule will be emailed in due course to the candidates in their registered e-mail. No separate letter (Hard copy) will be sent for this purpose. Further, for some updates, please see the Institute site frequently, for following alterations in the advertising and results.
17. The candidates must ensure that they meet all of the eligibility requirements as specified. Their admission will be only provisional subject to confirmation which they meet the prescribed eligibility requirements. Mere issue of telephone letters to the candidates won’t imply that his/her candidature was found qualified.
18. After joining, Hostel and mess facilities will be provided as per the availability.

Application Fee:

1. Application Fee per department (non-refundable): Rs. 200/for General/Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)/OBC category and Rs. 100/- for SC/ST/PD category candidate. The candidates can deposit the requisite application fee by using internet banking or debit/credit card facilities. Additional charges will be applicable according to the rule of the concerned bank. The Fee won’t be accepted through any other mode.
2. If the candidate opts for over 1 department/centre, subsequently the application fee ought to be paid in accordance with the number of department/centre.

Candidates are requested to apply online only. A hard copy of the application need not be submitted. A physical application will not be considered.
