PhD Programmes in Physical, Chemical, and Biological Sciences

The S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, a premier autonomous research institute Fully aided by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India invites eligible Applicants with a consistently good academic record (First Division/Class) to appear in the Walk-in interview for admission into the PhD Programme in Physical, Chemical & Biological Sciences for the Academic Year 2018-19. The programme is fully residential and the students Are offered on-campus lodging and boarding facilities. The Centre charges no fee for the programme. All students joining the centre get contingency grants to fulfil research Contingency expenses which include expenses for attending conferences and training Programmes in India. The students also get generous support to attend International

Conferences outside India from the Centre.

The Centre has extensive collaborative research programmes with other premier International & National institutions through bi-lateral exchanges in which the PhD research Scholars take an active part. The Centre receives various extramural funds from different  Funding agencies of India and abroad for its different research programmes. The Centre is Fully equipped with all the state-of-the-art infrastructure (computational and experimental ) Including digital library for advanced research in chosen areas of Physical, Chemical, Biological and Mathematical Sciences. Currently, the Centre Has nearly 160 students in its PhD and Integrated PhD (IPhD) programmes. The Alumni of the Centre have gone to work in research and academic sectors in India and abroad. The Centre provides a superb atmosphere for the academic development of students. The students, After registering with a Research Supervisor, need to undertake a prescribed Course Work Programme according to existing UGC regulations. The details of the admission procedure are Furnished below:

1. a) Basic Qualification:

M.Sc/Masters with First Class/Division i.e., minimum 60 percent in aggregate (55 percent for SC/ST/OBC applicants ) in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology.

b) Additional Qualifications required along with Basic Qualifications:

CSIR-NET-JRF OR UGC-NET-JRF (Dec 2016, June/Dec 2017, June/Dec 2018) with valid Award letter OR INSPIRE — PROVISIONALLY SELECTED and Award Letter to be legitimate upto 01.04.2019.

It’s compulsory that the applicants with “Provisional INSPIRE Award” ought to Have qualified a National Level Test (NLT) such as JEST or GATE at the time of application.

2. Admission Process: Aspiring candidates are advised to appear for Walk-in-interview.

3. Age Limit: None. However, the last Qualifying University examination (M.Sc.) should have been taken not earlier than 2017.

4. Fellowship: In line with the rules of Funding Agency. For the first two years, one will get a fellowship as Junior Research Fellow (JRF).  Thereafter, upon meeting the eligibility criteria of The funding agency, the students will be upgraded as Senior Research Fellow (SRF). The Programme is strictly residential and all students will be given on campus Accommodation.

5. Walk-in Interview Date: 28th January 2019. Reporting Time: 9:30 am

Please bring a plain paper CV together with your testimonials giving 10th, 12th, Bachelors and Masters degree details and legitimate award letter from the funding agency.
