The School of BioSciences and Technology offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in the fields of Biotechnology, Biomedical Genetics and Applied Microbiology. The School consists of 5 departments headed by well trained (experienced) professors. These departments are Biotechnology, Integrative Biology, Bio-Sciences, Bio-Medical Sciences, and Catering & Hotel Management.
Amidst the numerous courses offered by VIT, there are a couple that caters to the research domain as well, namely M. Phil, M. Tech. And Ph. D. Students have a wide of variety of choices which range from Nanoelectronics, disaster management, HR, Finance to Cancer biology, structural engineering and several languages.
MPhil
To provide the student with sufficient background for advanced research. The M.Phil degree will have the status of an intermediate degree between the Post- grad degree along with the Doctoral Degree. It will have both a course and research element.
Categories:
A. Internal fulltime Candidates
: A candidate who wants to work for M.Phil degree on total time (including project staff working in sponsored projects being carried out at the institute) should apply in the prescribed form on or before due dates to be announced normally once each year.B. Internal part-time applicants: All the staff members of this institute having the requisite minimum qualifications and also one year’s experience at the institute can work on a part-time basis for M.Phil degree. They ought to apply in the prescribed form on or before the dates to be announced normally once each year.
C. External part-time applicants: Teachers working in other colleges in a permanent position and applicants sponsored by R & D organisations, National labs and industries having R & D facilities recognized by DSIR, together with requisite minimum qualifications can work on part-time basis for M.Phil degree but they ought to apply in the prescribed form on or before the specified dates, to be announced normally once annually.
Eligibility: Master’s degree in a related subject with a first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5 on a 10 — point scale).
PhD
Categories:
A. Internal fulltime Candidates: A candidate who wants to work for PhD degree on full time (including project staff working in sponsored projects being carried out at the institute) should apply in the prescribed form on or before due dates to be declared normally once each year.
B. Internal part-time applicants: All the staff members of this institute having the requisite minimum qualifications can work on a part-time basis for PhD degree. They should apply in the prescribed form on or before the dates to be announced normally once each year.
C. External part-time applicants: Teachers working in other colleges in a permanent position and applicants sponsored by R & D organisations, National labs and Industries having R & D facilities recognized by DSIR, with requisite minimum qualifications can work on part-time basis for PhD level but they should apply in the prescribed form on or before the specified dates, to be announced normally once every year.
Eligibility:
A. PhD in Engineering: Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Business Administration with a primary class or a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5 to a 10 — point scale) or equivalent like M.Sc (Engineering) / M.S. by Research
B. PhD in Sciences / Humanities / Languages: Master’s degree with minimum 60 percent in Sciences / Humanities / Social Sciences Master’s degree with minimum 55 percent in Languages.
Procedure:
A. Applications will be invited by open advertising in all leading newspapers / local announcement for all types of candidates cited in section 2.
B. Doctoral and M.Phil. Applicants should take VITREE (VIT Research Entrance Examination) picking out a field of their specialization. Candidates for Integrated PhD and M.Tech. Research programmes should take VITMEE (VIT Masters’ Entrance Examination) in the field of specialization.
C. Selected candidates will be called for a personal interview to be conducted at the campus where the admission is sought.
D. Final Selection will be based on the overall merit index of the candidate that will be arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at Master’s level and the performance in the written test, research output and / the performance in personal interview.
