Exceptional students whose planned area of study aligns with the research priorities of this IITB-Monash Research Academy are encouraged to apply for the Joint PhD program.
The minimum entry requirements for PhD admission are:
- First class or equivalent Master’s degree in a range of disciplines
- First class Bachelor’s degree along with a valid GATE score
Satisfying requirements of academic qualifications and English Language proficiency of Monash University.

NOTE: Candidates with no valid GATE
score or research fellowship can be considered for admission if they have at least two years of professional experience. Competition for places is high and a competitive selection procedure is applied to all candidates.Please contact us directly in the Event That You Want to discuss your proposed area of PhD research or apply to the program
Step 1: EOI
Step one of the admissions procedure is that the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage. In this phase, applicants fill in an EOI form Online.
The EOI stage for the December 2018 intake is now in progress.
Please click the Expression of Interest (EOI) Form to let us to adequately evaluate your background, academic record and research pursuits. If your EOI form is shown to be suitable, you’ll get an email indicating you’re in a position to proceed to Step 2 of this application stage.
If your EOI Form is found to be appropriate, you’ll have to download and complete the full application form, Form A. Candidates who are successful in this EOI phase will be encouraged to go Step-2 once the EOI stage is finished. Contained inside this invitation email is going to be a unique Form A Number (FAN). This email will be sent only after the EOI phase is finished
Step 2: Form A
If your EOI form is found to be appropriate, you’ll be informed via email and you’ll be given a unique FAN number. You will need the FAN number to upload your Form-A online. At this point you’ll have to upload your transcripts, publications, certificates, etc and make project choices too. For logging into the Form A website, use your distinctive Form A Number (FAN). Don’t give this FAN to anybody else. It’s for your use only. In addition, you may use your FAN merely once. In the website, you’ll have to upload your Form A in addition to copies of all your academic transcripts, publications GATE score sheet, along with other supportive documentation. Remember again that you’ll just have one chance to utilize your FAN to login into the website to upload all your documentation linked to the applications-process.
So it’s going to be optimal if you accumulate all documentation concerning your application before going to the website.
Step 3: Short-listing for Interview
In case your Form-A is proven to be suitable, you’ll be informed via email and you’re going to get an interview invitation.
The Interview short-list will be declared only after the Form-A phase is complete.
Step 4: Evidence and Powerful Candidates
Following the interviews, successful applicants will be notified by email. .
