Project: “Establishment of National Avian Forensic Laboratory at SACON for National Certification for Illegal Trafficking of Birds”
The Sàlim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a premier research centre conducting cutting-edge research in the field of ornithology and natural history. Our centre has recently established a state-of-the-art Avian Forensic lab aiming to supply forensic services to government and other agencies. We’re also establishing a DNA databank and also an avian biobank that will function as reference sample repository. We’re searching for highly motivated external students that are pursuing PhD/MPhil/Masters’ degree and want to conduct the dissertation (2-4 years for PhD; 1 year for MPhil and <6 months for masters’ degree) work on bird genomics/ illegal trafficking of birds/ feather morphometrics and assist in sample collection for our biobank. We’re also searching for exceptionally enthusiastic volunteers and interns who want to contribute to our
project and aid in conserving birds. The following process ought to be followed by interested students.Dissertation Work: Students/scholars that are perusing PhD/MPhil/Masters’ degree may apply. The petition must be duly forwarded by the Head of Department/Dean, and have to provide the academic resumes of the suggested student(s) clearly specifying percentage marks obtained at different levels as well as the subjects covered, in addition to the period of proposed project work. Candidate will be chosen based on his/her interest and expertise. Internship: Students studying in established colleges, universities and institutions of higher learning in India and overseas are eligible to apply for the internship (1-6 months). Applications for the internship should be duly forwarded by the Principal / Dean / Registrar of their College / University / Institution where the student is now studying. Candidate will be chosen based on his/her interest and expertise. Volunteers: A volunteer describes a qualified individual (s) who gives voluntary aid to any research, training and academic activities of the Centre in lieu of exposure and experience in such activities, and who, thereof, doesn’t entitle to any position, either temporary or permanent in the Centre. The’volunteer’ opportunity is only for gaining personal exposure and expertise. Candidates that have completed or pursuing graduate/post-graduate degrees and other equal or higher research in established colleges, universities and institutions of higher learning can opt to be a volunteer. Educational qualifications might be relaxed in exceptional cases at the discretion of Director SACON. Application Process: Interested applicants for Dissertation Work/Internship /Volunteering can apply, STRICTLY IN THE PRESCRIBED FORMAT (Annexure I — PhD/MPhil/ Masters’ Degree, Annexure II — Internship and Annexure III — Volunteers), and also send the filled in application form via email to [email protected] with a copy to [email protected]. The Institute may offer accommodation to the external students/scholars off or on campus on payment basis according to the availability of rooms within our hostel. In the event of non-availability of lodging in our hostel, the students may make their particular arrangements for accommodation outside the campus throughout the length of the work. Volunteers won’t be provided accommodation on campus.
