Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) has been conducted from 2004 to provide admissions to M.Sc. (Four Semesters), Joint M.Sc.-Ph. D., M.Sc.-Ph. D. Dual Degree, etc.. Programmes in the IITs and Integrated Ph.D.. Degree Programmes in IISc for consolidating Science for
a career option for bright students. These postgraduate programs at IITs and IISc provide top quality education in their respective areas, comparable to the very best in the entire world. The curricula for all these programmes are intended to offer opportunities to the students to develop academic talent resulting in rewarding and challenging professional life.The candidates who are eligible in JAM 2019 will have to meet the following Eligibility Requirements (ER) for admissions in IITs.
- All candidates admitted through JAM ought to have a Bachelor’s degree.
- In the qualifying degree, the aggregate marks or CGPA/CPI with no rounding-off (taking into account all subjects, such as languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) must be at least 55% or 5.5 out of 10 for General/OBC (NCL) category candidates and 50 percent or 5.0 out of 10 for SC/ST and PwD category applicants.
For Candidates with letter grades/CGPA (rather than percent of marks), the equivalence in percent of marks will be determined by the Admitting Institute(s).
Proof of having passed the Qualifying Degree with the Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ) as given by the Admitting Institute ought to be submitted by September 30, 2019.
At the time of entrance, all admitted candidates will need to submit an physical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form. In the time of admission, the admitted candidates might also need to undergo a physical fitness evaluation by a medical board constituted from the Admitting Institute. If a candidate isn’t found physically fit to pursue his/her preferred course of research, his/her entrance is liable to be cancelled.
Notice:

Candidates are able to apply for JAM 2019 only through JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) link accessible in the web site http://jam.iitkgp.ac.in. The facility for Online Registration and Application will be accessible through the web site http://jam.iitkgp.ac.in from September 01, 2018. A candidate must register on JOAPS site, by providing his/her name, a legitimate E-mail address, a working cellphone number and a password. The candidate should give an E-mail address that he/she checks and uses regularly, as all communication to the candidate from JAM 2019 will be sent to the E-mail address. The candidate shouldn’t use someone else’s E-mail address and only 1 candidate can be registered with a single E-mail address. In the same way, the candidate must provide his/her personal mobile number because the majority of the communication might also be sent via SMS. The password which the candidate provides should be selected such that it can’t be guessed easily by other people and this password should not be forgotten by the candidate since he/she will need it to login to the online application site. Upon successful registration, an E-mail comprising candidate Enrolment ID will be sent to the E-mail address given by the candidate. The Enrolment ID will also be sent to the mobile number given by the candidate. The candidate should utilize this enrolment ID together with the password to get all JAM 2019 related communications or site operations. Candidates are advised to maintain the ID together with the password information confidential and safe .
JOAPS Offers an online interface to the candidate for interacting with all the JAM Administration. With this interface, a candidate may:
- Apply for the exam online
- Upload photograph, signature and other documents like category certificate (if applicable), PwD certification (if applicable), etc..
- Pay the application fee via any of the electronic payment modes
- Check the Status of the application form: Received, Under scrutiny, Accepted, Defect status, Status after rectification, Rejected with legitimate reasons, Admit card ready for downloading, etc..

- View your answers, marks and JAM score
- Download JAM scorecard
- Submission of application for Admission
Candidates are discouraged from making application through a third person. If someone else (friend or Web café individual ) is filling the application on behalf of this candidate, then the candidate must make sure that the information submitted are correct. It’s been noticed during earlier occasions the information filled by other individual on behalf of this candidate was incorrect, because they didn’t have proper info concerning the candidate.
