Nominations are invited for the award of SERB Year of Science Chair Professorship. The intent is to encourage outstanding scientists from India who continue to perform at the highest level no matter age/ field of research/institution in most areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). These Professors are considered as benchmark for stature, significance and eminence in the global arena. The calendar year 2012 is listed as the Year of Science (YoS) in commemoration of excellent scientific participation emanating from Indian Science throughout the previous 100 years. Even though Research and Development Foundation in India is expanding, new steps need to promote excellence in research in every area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).In order to acknowledge the
outstanding contribution of scientists and academicians into the reason for Indian science, the SERB has analyzed and endorsed YoS Chair Professorships at the regions of STEM. The intent is to encourage outstanding scientists from India who continue to do at the maximum level no matter age/ field of research/institution. These Professors are considered as a benchmark for prestige, significance and eminence in the global location.Goal:
To recognize outstanding contributions made by some of the Indian scientists towards excellence and greatest impact in R&D in sciences at the national level in addition to from the worldwide context. This recognition would be to impart rightful glory into the livelihood and should serve to increase the ambitions of young and mid-career research workers.
Qualification:
- The awardee must be a distinguished Indian scientist at any one or more regions of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Biomedical Research.
- He/She must have made excellent contributions in advanced science and research management.
- He/She ought to have a superb track record according to the election to prestigious Science and Engineering Academics from the world and higher impact publications, patents and fame as a distinguished contributor to the increase of science from the nation.
Grant:
- Research grant of Rs.25.0 lakhs per annum and an honorarium of Rs.100, 000 a month will probably be awarded to every Fellow.
- The study grant shall be utilized for labour, equipment, travel (including international), contingency, etc..
- The award will be awarded to get a period of five years and is extendable through evaluation dependent on the performance.
Who can nominate?
Present and past Presidents of Science/Engineering National Academies or Year of Science Chair Professors, Directors of National Laboratories, Vice-Chancellors of Colleges, and associates of both Science and Engineering Research Board.
