Call for ‘Letters of Intent (LOIs)’ on Reproductive Biology

Reproductive health problems are a leading cause of ill health and death for women and girls of childbearing age in developing countries. Research on reproductive diseases, disorders and conditions that affect the functioning of the male and female reproductive systems during all stages of life needs to be undertaken. A close connection between clinical and basic scientists must be established to understand the detailed reproductive biology and to look for new transgenic animal models of reproductive diseases to undertake research that can facilitate diagnosis and treatment.

The Department of Biotechnology is seeking to support projects in Reproductive Health that
can facilitate better understanding of the biology and thereby

open up new avenues and
approaches to tackle them. The Letters of Intent (LOIs) forming independent components or multi-centric network program in both clinical and basic research are invited with following broad areas:

1) Biology of Infertility

The LOIs must be focused, and with novel research questions. It would be scrutinized and
evaluated in accordance with the stated goals of the programme, novelty of hypothesis,
uniqueness, feasibility and track record of the main investigators, ability to do research in
their present setting. The decision would thereafter be communicated to investigators /Coordinators. While experience in the area will be valued but will not be limiting for the right proposal.
