Advertisement for admission to Ph.D. Programme in Biotechnology, 2016 – 2017
Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. programme in Biotechnology, C.U. Candidates desirous of enrolling in the said Ph.D. programme are to apply in the prescribed form (as given below) after paying the prescribed application fee of Rs. 100/- (in cash only) in the University Cash Counter. Application Form is available with this notice and can be downloaded in the pdf format. The form filled-in by the candidate in his own handwriting, accompanied by self-attested copies of M.Sc./B.Tech. and NET/SET/SLET/GATE/M.Phil./SC/ST/OBC certificates (if applicable), will have to be submitted at the departmental office on all working days before the last date between 12 noon-3 pm only after paying the prescribed fee of Rs. 100 (Rupees one hundred only) at the university cash counter. The payment challan has to be endorsed by the departmental office (4th floor) before submission at the cash counter (12 noon-1 pm).
The details about the proposed admission test (written- MCQ type questions with single/multiple correct answers) and subsequent interview of
the candidates are given below. The candidates who have cleared UGC/CSIR(JRF)/NET/SET /SLET/valid GATE/Teacher Fellowship/Inspire Fellowship or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil examination shall not be required to appear at the Ph.D. entrance test; however, they are to appear for the interview. Please also note that candidates who are eligible for waiver of the written tests are also required to complete and submit the application form by the deadline.1. 3. Issuance of admit cards to the eligible candidates for the written test (from the departmental office) : 20.02.2017 (2PM-4PM).
4. Date of written test for Ph.D. Entrance Examination – 23.02.2017 (03:00 pm. – 5:00 p.m.)
5. Merit list for selection interview: 01.03.2017 (To be displayed on the departmental notice board)
6. Date of selection Interview– 06.03.2017

Eligibility:
i) Candidates with M.Sc. in any branch of Life Sciences, Chemistry, Physics from any UGC recognized University of Institute with 55% marks in aggregate (SC, ST & OBC with 50% marks) will be eligible to apply for the admission in the Ph. D. Program in Biotechnology.
ii) Total Marks for written test: 100
Qualifying Marks: 50
Note: The RET would comprise of MCQ on Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry of Higher Secondary (10+2) standard and life sciences of Undergraduate standard
Date of publication of the final selection list: To be displayed on the departmental notice board later.
Qualifying RET is just an admission test for Ph. D. Program in Biotechnology of the University of Calcutta and does not ensure any research fellowship nor guarantee registration for the Ph. D. Degree.
