The application format for admission to do Ph.D programme for January 2017 Session will be uploaded in the University website www.unom.ac.in and it will be available from 01.12.2016 to 30.12.2016. The candidates who desires to get admission for January 2017 session are directed to download the application format from the University website and submit the same duly filled in the Department / College / Research Institute, where they are propose to undergo their research along with the prescribed fee of Rs.500/- drawn by means of demand draft in favour of “The Registrar, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai – 600 005”.
The Schedule caste / Schedule Tribe are exempted from paying the application processing fee and that they should send the copy of the proof at the time of submission of application.
Departmental Selection Committee should be convened only after the last date of receipt of
applications from the candidates for January 2017 session i.e. 30.12.2016 and the Entrance Examination should be conducted during the month of January 2017 only. The Departmental Selection Committee Minutes along with the Ph.D. application of the candidate together with the enclosures should be sent to the University on or before 31.01.2017. The applications received after the stipulated time i.e. after 31.01.2017 will not be considered for admission January 2017 session.Note:
1. Candidates are informed to submit the filled in application to the respective Departments / Affiliated Colleges / Research Institutions on or before 30.12.2016.
2. The Departments / Affiliated Colleges / Research Institutions should send the application along with the enclosures to the University on or before 31.01.2017.
3. The application designed for the January 2017 Session alone will be accepted and no other application will be considered under any circumstances.
ELIGIBILITY :
For purposes of admission to the Ph.D. programme, a candidate should have obtained a Master’s Degree with 55% marks in the qualifying examination. For SC/ST candidates and for candidates who have completed the PG degree before 1991, the minimum can be only 50% for admission to the Ph.D programme.
REGISTRATION FOR THE Ph.D. PROGRAMME
There shall be the following categories of candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme:
a. Full-time scholar (with or without stipend or fellowship)
b. Part-time scholar (teacher or non-teacher, internal vis-à-vis external)
The candidates belonging to any of the above categories may register at University
Departments, Affiliated Colleges, Research Institutions, or R & D Centres/Laboratories coming under these regulations.
Checklist for Admission Application:
Attested photo copies of :–
i. Attested copy of X std, HSC, UG, PG and M.Phil or NET or SLET. Mark Statements and Convocation / Provisional Certificates.
ii. Minutes of the Departmental Selection Committee recommending the candidate to do Ph.D. programme.
iii. A copy of the Guide ship communication which was issued by the University.
iv. A Demand Draft for Rs. 500/- drawn in favour of THE REGISTRAR, UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS towards
processing fee for admission to Ph.D Programme.
v. Community Certificate
vi. Birth Certificate / S.S.L.C. Certificate
If Stipendiary :- Vii A copy of the Stipendiary communication (UGC/JRF/SRF) from the Department / College / Institutions and Joining report (if already joined).
(Interdisciplinary) for both Full-Time and Part – Time
a. Candidate desires to do Ph.D Programme on Inter-Disciplinary basis, he/she is requested to furnish the details in the prescribed format and send the same duly signed by the Guide and Co-supervisor and the Principal of the College/Head/Director of the institution where he/she is proposed to do research and the same should be approved by the Departmental Selection Committee.
b. The Research Proposal (Not more than 500 words) signed by him/her and the supervisor with seal, the same should be approved by the Departmental Selection Committee
c. Choose a Co-guide in the subject within the jurisdiction of University of Madras and get his / her acceptance and forward the same and also a copy of the Guide ship communication [for Co Guide] which was issued by the University.
Part-Time candidates should also enclose the following certificates along with application :-
1. A copy of Approval of qualification issued by the University of Madras (Teachers only).
2. A Service Certificate and No Objection Certificate in original without any break of service in Current position (Both Teachers and Non Teachers) from the Head of the Institution where the candidate is employed indicating the date of appointment ( i.e., whether permanent or temporary or leave vacancy, contract etc.) should be furnished if there is any break in service ( if it is not a continuous service), the details should be furnished. (Once service certificate submitted along with application, later it cannot be changed or withdrawn.)
3. A copy of appointment order issued by appointing authority. (Both Teachers and Non Teachers)
4. No Objection Certificate in original from the Director of Technical Education / District Educational Officer stating that the polytechnics / Higher Secondary / High School where the teacher is employed has been recognized by the government.
5. A copy of Company Registration letter for the proof of Registered Firm (Non Teachers only).
Part-Time candidates (External) :-
A. An undertaking letter from the Head of the Institution to monitor the candidate’s Research work. (where he/she is working)
B. An undertaking letter from the supervisor to monitor the candidate’s Research work for a minimum period of six months during his/her research.
C. No Objection Certificate in original from the University concerned (where he / she is working.) to undergo Part-Time Ph.D. Programme. (Other University Teachers Only) ALL THE ABOVE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS HAVE TO BE ENCLOSED ALONG WITH THE APPLICATION, FAILING WHICH THE APPLICATION IS LIABLE FOR CANCELLATION
INSTRUCTIONS
I. Serial Nos 1-18 should be filled by the Applicant. Serial Nos.19-24 should be filled by the Supervisor. Serial No.25 should be filled by the Head of the Research Department/ Principal/ Director. Serial No.26 should be filled by the Employer.
II. The filled in applications should be sent to the concerned Heads of the Departments of the University / Principals of the Colleges / Directors of recognized Research Institutions on or before 30th December of 2016. ONLY LIMITED HOSTEL FACILITIES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE UNIVERSITY HOSTELS. HENCE, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE FOR HOSTEL FOR ACCOMMODATION TO FRESH CANDIDATES.
