THE NATIONAL MISSION ON HIMALAYAN STUDIES (NMHS) PROGRAM

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is implementing the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) through different research institutions/organizations. Doon University has been awarded Research Positions (3 RAs and 10 JRFs) for a period of 3 years (2016-2019).

Doon University is looking for bright candidates from Environmental, Biological, Physical, Social Sciencesand the related disciplines for filling up the following positions: Himalayan Research Associate (H-RA) 03 (three) and Himalayan Junior Research Fellows (H-JRF) 10 (ten) for the duration 2016-2019. Applications are invited from Indian citizens who are keenly interested to work for the Himalayan ecosystem and willing to take up field assignments of longer duration in the Himalayan region. The details of the positions are given below.

Position 1

  • Job Title : Himalayan Research Associate* (H-RA)
  • No of Posts : 3
  • Salary : Rs.36,000 + HRA
  • Essential Qualification : Ph.D in Environmental Sciences / Biological Science Physical Sciences/Social  Sciences and related relevant Discipline
  • Age : up to 35 years
  • Desirable Qualifications :  Prior work experience in the Mountainous/Himalayan Region/relevant discipline, Knowledge / experience / interest in energy efficiency/natural resource management/migration pattern. The candidate should be willing to take Field assignments.

· Sustainable harvesting protocols for diverse natural resources developed;

· Local natural resource management institutions strengthened;

· Good practices documented and up-scaled.

HRA003 Uttrakhand Himalaya · Study of outmigration pattern in the State

· Study the factors responsible and solutions

· Recommendations of policy changes for reducing outmigration

· Alternate livelihood options


Position II

  • Job Title : Himalayan Junior Research Fellow (H-JRF)
  • No of Posts : 10
  • Salary : JRF Rs. 25,000 (for NET qualified candidates), JRF Rs. 16,000/- (for non NET candidates) and HRA as admissible
  • Qualification : Post Graduate Degree in Environmental Sciences/ Biological sciences/ Physical Sciences/Social Sciences and related relevant discipline with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
  • Age : up to 28 years
  • Desirable Qualifications :  Prior work experience in the relevant area. The candidate should be willing to take Field assignments.

H-JRF003 Uttarkashi District Uttarakhand · Issues concerning development in sensitive areas · Scientific evidences and databases developed/ augmented/ disseminated.
H-JRF004 All districts of Uttarakhand · Testing options for human capacity building including promotion of micro-enterprises and green technologies · Identify key sectors and capacity building needs of those having immediate bearing on conservation and livelihoods.

Desirable qualifications are only indicative in nature. In case of exceptional candidates, these may be relaxed.

*Candidates with relevant experience and who have submitted Ph.D thesis and are awaiting results may also beconsidered, and if found suitable may be given a provisional RA position till the results are communicated.

Age relaxation up to 5 years will be applicable for SC/ST/OBC and Women candidates.

How to Apply : 

Recruitment process

The selection of Himalayan Research Associates (H-RAs) and Himalayan Junior Research Fellows (H-JRFs) will be through a written test followed by a personal interview. Candidates who have cleared UGC/CSIR NET-JRF will have to appear for the interview only. The written test for the Science candidates will be based on UGC-NET syllabus of Environmental Sciences including questions from relevant discipline. The syllabus for the written test for the candidates from social sciences background will be based on general socio-economic pattern of the Himalayan region including migration pattern, promotion of micro-enterprises, local community development, rural populations and market linkages.

(i) Candidates should submit their application online only till 5th June 2016 by 17:00 hours. The application fee of Rs. 300/- should also be payable online with the application. The website link for NMHS application form will be made available on Doon university website (www.doonuniversity.org) since Monday 16-May-2016.Candidates must mention the Project name and Position applied for in their applications. In the application, a candidate must mention his/her priority for the positions as indicated in the table of RA/JRF positions in this advertisement.

(ii) The University shall screen the applications received by due date and organize a written test and interview for the short-listed candidates on 13th – 14th June 2016.

The shortlisted candidates will be intimated by e-mail for the written test and interview.

Shortlisted candidates will have to produce original certificates cited in their applications at the time of written test / interview, without which they will be disqualified. Mere fulfillment of the minimum advertised qualification and experience requirement DOES NOT automatically entitle an applicant to be called for written test/interview. The decision of the University in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of application, mode of selection will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained from any individual or his/her agency. At the time of the verification of original documents, if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to willfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, his/her candidature will not be considered and he/she will not be allowed to appear for the interview.
