A constituent unit of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) University, Sattur, Dharwad

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University (SDM University) was formed on October 19, 2018 as a State Private University of Karnataka State in Sattur, Dharwad, under the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University Act.

• The University has been sponsored by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational (SDME) Society, Ujire, Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka, a premier non-profit Educational Society. This Society operates under the auspices of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala and under the dynamic leadership of Poojya Shri D. Veerendra Heggade, the Chancellor of the University. SDM University is headed by Dr. Niranjan Kumar, a world-renowned surgeon, as Vice Chancellor.
• The University’s Chancellor is a visionary leader whose ambition was to establish an affordable Centre of Excellence in Medical Education and Healthcare for the people of North Karnataka. The University and its constituent institutions provide exceptional education and healthcare under the skilled leadership of the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor. The university provides a very conducive environment throughout the campus, with contemporary education and research infrastructure, hostels, and sports facilities.

SDM Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences (SDMRIBS) is the constituent teaching & research institute that started in the year 2019 under the SDM University, Dharwad. The Institute conducts research in the advanced & emerging areas of modern sciences with innovation & initiative for indigenous technology & product development. The institute offers academic programs, M.Sc. & Ph.D. based on the Choice Based Credit System as per the UGC guidelines.

The institute is equipped with experienced faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure & research facilities for both basic & translational research. The institute has been working to unravel the intricacies of various communicable and non-communicable diseases through innovative ideas, creative problem solving, and cutting edge technologies.

The focus of these programs is to gain advanced knowledge and skills in the field of BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES, GENETICS, COMPUTATION BIOLOGY in collaboration with the SDM Medical College, Dental College and Hospitals. These are creating a strong base for research & development for innovative ideas & translation of inventions to clinical medicine for the betterment of human health in the society. Adaptation and execution of advanced biomedical research to rapidly changing, dynamic, and complex science that continuously demands translation is the hallmark of the institute. Our programs are first-of-its-kind in this region of Karnataka. It is a great opportunity for students and researchers to engage systematic understanding of modern science and interested in basic, advanced, and translational research. Candidates can aspire for careers in academia, biomedical research in Research Centers/Institutes/Universities or to work in the biotechnical, pharmaceutical, and healthcare industries in India and Abroad.

Eligibility

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree of a minimum 3 years duration in Biological Sciences (Biomedical Science/Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Botany/Zoology/Genetics/Home Science/Chemistry/Computer Science) or possess a bachelor’s degree in BE/B. Tech, majoring in computer science/Biotechnology/ Medical/ Dental/B.Pharm/ Pharmacology/ Animal Sciences and any other bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or computer science from a reputed and recognized university/Board recognized as equivalent by SDM University, with not less than 55% marks in aggregate.

Admission/selection of eligible candidates for M.Sc. programs shall be based on the eligibility, marks secured in the qualifying Test, and personal interview.
