Applications are invited from suitable candidates for filling up the purely temporary position of one Student trainee/Intern in the SERB project entitled “Investigating the microRNA169: Nuclear FactorYA module as a potential target for early maturation and yield enhancement under control and heat stress conditions in tomato”, of Dr. Saloni Mathur, Scientist, NIPGR.

Student Trainee/Intern (One Post):

Emoluments: ₹ 5000/- pm consolidated (post only for two months)

Qualification: Students currently pursuing the final year of B.Tech/B.Eng/M.Sc./M.Tech in
Molecular Biology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Plant Science/Life Sciences/Bioinformatics or
related field are eligible to apply.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should send (i) bio-data (ii) certificate from the head of the Institute/Department clearly indicating

the current status of student and permission to attend the training if selected, (iii) copies of their mark sheet and (iv) a brief paragraph indicating their research interest.

The above position is completely on temporary basis and co-terminus with the project. The fellowship amount for the above position is as sanctioned in the project. The appointment will be for two months only and the same can be curtailed on the basis of assessment of the candidate’s performance and discretion of the Competent Authority. NIPGR reserves the right to select the candidate against the above post depending upon the qualification and experience of the candidate. Reservation of posts shall be as per Govt. of India norms. The appointment may be terminated any time by giving one month notice by either side. The applicants will have no claim implicit or explicit for consideration against any regular position of NIPGR.

Eligible candidates may apply by sending soft copy through e-mail in the given format with a cover letter showing interest The soft copy of the self- attested copies of the mark-sheets, certificates, (10th standard onwards) and proof of research experience/publications should be attached with the application. A single pdf file, consisting of the application from the cover letter, and all documents, must be sent to [email protected] within 15 days from the date of advertisement. The subject line of the e-mail should be “Application for the Post of Student Trainee/ Intern”, under Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR). Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to the disqualification of the candidate(s). incomplete application and lack of supporting educational certificates/documents will be rejected.

Answer: I am particularly interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying early maturation and yield enhancement in plants, especially under stress conditions. Investigating the role of microRNA169 and Nuclear FactorYA module in tomato is fascinating to me, as it offers valuable insights into improving crop productivity and resilience.

Answer: During the internship, I intend to immerse myself in the project’s objectives and work closely with the research team to conduct experiments and analyze data. I believe my strong background in molecular biology and biotechnology will enable me to contribute effectively to the project’s success.

Answer: Yes, I have been involved in a research project during my undergraduate studies that focused on the characterization of stress-responsive genes in Arabidopsis thaliana. Additionally, I contributed to a publication in a peer-reviewed journal that explored the role of specific microRNAs in plant growth and development.
  5. Question: How do you handle challenges and tight deadlines in a research environment? Answer: I approach challenges with a proactive and systematic mindset. I believe in seeking guidance from mentors and collaborating with team members to find innovative solutions. When faced with tight deadlines, I prioritize tasks, manage my time efficiently, and maintain open communication with the team to ensure smooth progress in the research work.
