The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) is an autonomous institution of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, with a mandate of b basic research, teaching & training, and as a national repository for cell lines/hybridomas etc. The Centre is located in the midst of an academically enriched environment of the University of Savitribai Phule Pune Campus, Pune. NCCS invites applications for the following posts on various extramural projects purely on a temporary basis.
Post I
Name of the Post – Senior Research Fellow
No. of Posts – 01 (One)
Name of the Project – Neurobiology of food choices driven by nutrient-specific memories and high calorie
diets. (Ramanujan Fellowship)Name of the PI -Dr. Gaurav Das
Project Tenure – Up to 20.02.2023
Age Limit – Not more than 32 years as of the last date of application.
Essential Qualification & Experience –
Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science or Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following & should have 2 years of research experience.
- Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and/or GATE.
- The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc.
Desirable Qualification & Experience –
- Extensive experience in working with Drosophila, preferably behavioural studies.
- Competence in immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging.
- Good Knowledge of genetics.

Name of the Project – A novel function for a conserved bioamine in long-term memory and RNA granule remodeling.

Essential Qualification & Experience –
Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / MVSc or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent.
Desirable Experience –
- Experience with working with Drosophila and running behaviour assays for memory and other types of behaviour, brain dissections, immunostaining and genetics (setting up crosses to make a combination of mutants, etc.), imaging (confocal and live calcium imaging). If candidates have experience in programming and cloning, it will be further beneficial.
- Work will involve long hours of recording courtship behaviour, and quantifying videos manually. Due to the time course of experiments including following memory kinetics post training, there will be numerous occasions where the candidates will need to work over the weekends and holidays. Candidates should be prepared for this.
- The candidates are expected to be driven by their own motivation for science, be fearless in their work, adventurous in spirit and honest and ethical with their behaviour.

Essential Qualification & Experience –
- Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences/ MVSc or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent; and
- 2 years of experience in Research and Development in Industrial and Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organizations and Scientific activities and services.
Desirable Experience – Strong background in Life Sciences with excellent communication skills. Good knowledge on preparing financial documents such as UC/SE. Experience in working with website online portals and consoles would be preferred. One recommendation letter from your Supervisor/Scientist with whom you have worked, commenting on the suitability of your candidature for the said advertisement would be preferred.

Desirable Experience – Experience in qPCR-based gene quantification, genome and targeted metagenomic sequence analysis with hands-on experience in Bioinformatic analysis is a plus.

- The above-advertised positions are filled up purely on a temporary basis for the limited time period on the extramural project funded by DBT/ DSTICSIR, ICMR SERB etc. Government and private organizations. The position will automatically co-terminus on the completion of the project tenure.
- Fellowship/Emoluments: Emoluments to the research personnel engaged under the project will be made in accordance with the sanction order or latest DST O.M whichever the case may be.
- The age limit will be considered on the closing date of receipt of the application. Age relaxation of 5 years in case of Women/SC/ST/PH candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates will be given as per Government of India rules. Reservation as per Govt. of India norms will be followed.
- Age & Experience will be relaxed in exceptional cases by the Competent Authority.
