Is CSIR NET Exam very Tough? Is CSIR NET JRF Exam very Tough to crack? Can I Qualify for CSIR NET, Have Heard It is Very Tough? CSIR NET is very Difficult to crack! These are the most common questions we have encountered being in the CSIR NET industry for over a decade now. We must first understand that not all individuals are similar. we are totally different starting from the molecular & genetic level to the level of understanding & comprehending things.

For eg: Aisha & Suhas have studied together for their masters and prepared together for CSIR NET Exam with the same tools, the same study materials, and with the same effort but in the end, it’s only Aisa who qualified for the CSIR NET Exam and not Suhas. The point here is it is not entirely upon who you are, how you study, what you study for qualifying any entrance exam, it all depends on how you judge the finale situation & execute whatever you have practiced and learned. And thus some people find it very difficult to qualify CSIR NET Exam but some say it’s a game of super memory & logical thinking. The notion varies from person to person.

Now, read on and understand what is our take on this matter:

Is CSIR NET Exam really tough? CSIR NET exam is Difficult to crack ?

The answer is yes and No. Yes for students who believe they can and No for students who just keep looking for answers to such questions, rather than taking up the pen & paper and diving deep into the CSIR NET Exam Preparation Journey.

CSIR NET Exam is not so tough that no one can clear it. Every year thousands of students qualify for the CSIR NET June & CSIR NET Dec Exam and make a successful career ahead.

How does the CSIR NET Exam Marking System & Cut-Off work?

It is highly likely you can crack the CSIR NET Exam in your first attempt itself if you start preparing early and dedicate a minimum of 6 months of disciplined studies for the preparation. If you have done your part of the CSIR NET Cut off analysis you must have noticed that the Cut-Off goes approximately 60% of the total marks. Students who score 70-80% become the toppers. So the goal here is to plan a strategic study plan to land yourself in a cut-off range of 60%-80% approximately.

If we dive further into the CSIR NET Question Paper or the Exam pattern. It has 3 sections – PART A, PART B & PART C. Out of which Part A has 20 Questions. Part B has 50 questions and PART C has 75 questions.

Marks Allotment For Correct Answers in CSIR NET exam:

  • PART A: +2 per Correct Answer
  • PART B: +2 Per Correct Answer
  • PART C: +4 Per Correct Answer

Negative marking in CSIR NET Exam:

  • Part A: -0.5 per wrong answer
  • PART B: 0.5 per wrong answer
  • PART C: -1 per wrong answer

How Much Marks You Need In Each Section To Qualify CSIR NET – Explained

PART A: It comprises General aptitude questions. And out of 20 questions in total, you need to answer any 15. Even if you answer more, only the first 15 answered questions will be taken into consideration. For each question answered correctly you are awarded 2 marks and 0.5 negative markings for wrong answers. Try to solve atleast 10 questions confidently in PART A. Do not skip Preparing for PART A, many students tend to do that.

So if you have answered 10 questions correctly in PART A – you get 10*2 = 20 Marks. Even if you have answered some questions wrongly, let’s say 6 questions. Then Your score will be – 20-3 = 17.

PART B: This section contains questions from the CSIR NET prescribed syllabus and is mostly subjective. You need to answer 35 questions out of 50 from this section. If you have prepared well for the CSIR NET Exam and your concepts are crystal clear you can easily answer 25 questions correctly. While answering all 35 questions will fetch you higher marks, proceed only if you are prepared up to the mark and are confident of the answer.

Here if you have answered 25 questions correctly in PART B – you get 25*2 = 50 Marks. Even if you have answered some questions wrongly, let’s say 6 questions. Then Your score will be – 50-6 = 44.

PART CThis is the most dangerous as a well-important section of the CSIR NET exam that can fetch you more marks than others and help you get a higher rank in the exam. This section contains questions that test your analytical & research skills. In total there are 75 questions in the section out of which you need to answer any 25. In this section for every correct answer you get +4 and for a wrong answer -1. if you are doing self-study, Attending any coaching class, or following any youtube guru, all of them tell you to focus more on PART C questions while preparing for the CSIR NET exam. Keeping that in mind, if you are prepared well enough you can easily answer 15 questions correctly. Answering all is not advisable as the negative marking is higher in this section.

If you have answered 20 questions correctly in PART C – you get 18*4 = 72 Marks. Even if you have answered some questions wrongly, let’s say 6 questions. Then Your score will be 72-6 = 66.

Now let’s add up the marks which you have scored in all the parts, 17+44+66 = 127, A score of 127 is very close enough to crack CSIR NET Exam with a Good Rank.

The above calculations are just approximations to give you an idea of how the scoring system works in CSIR NET. You can plan a Target score for yourself and prepare accordingly. Cut-Offs may vary at times, so it is advised to always take the maximum upper limit as your target. Aim for the moon and you will definitely fall amongst the stars.
