2019 PhD Student Recruitment
Applications for the 2019 Crick PhD Programme are now open. The application deadline is 12:00 noon (GMT) on Monday 19 March 2019.

Talented and motivated graduates are encouraged to submit applications for the following PhD Programmes starting in September 2019.

Graduates with backgrounds in:

  • biological or biomedical sciences
  • physics
  • engineering
  • chemistry
  • mathematics
  • or computer science

Science graduates with an interest in cancer biotherapeutics are invited to apply to join the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) City of London (CoL) Centre PhD Programme. For full information about the application and interview process for the CRUK CoL programme, please go to the CRUK CoL Centre webpages.

Candidates may apply to only one of these programmes, or to both.

What we offer

The Crick PhD studentship includes

  • A place on the 4-year Crick PhD Programme
  • £22,000 tax-free student stipend (living allowance) per year for 4 years
  • 4-years’ tuition fees

Eligibility & academic entry criteria:

Candidates of all nationalities can apply for the Crick PhD programme and studentship.

The standard Crick PhD programme and studentship academic eligibility criteria are:

  • A first/upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent from a non-UK university) in a relevant subject.
  • Appropriate research experience as part of, or outside of, an undergraduate or masters degree course in a relevant subject.
  • Appropriate English language skills.

English skills

You do not need to submit information relating to English language skills during the application process. If you are offered a studentship we will provide you with information on our English language requirements. You will need to prove you meet the requirements as early as possible and by no later than the end of May 2019.

A small number of individual PhD positions have restricted eligibility because of specific criteria associated with the funding for that position. If any additional eligibility criteria apply to a particular position, this is noted at the top of the individual PhD position page.

Before beginning an application, you should:

  • Find out about the group leaders recruiting PhD students to start in September 2019 and view their recorded talks
  • Find out about the group leaders’ labs (find a link to each lab on the position page)

When applying, you must:

Interviews:

Interviews will take place at the Crick on Thursday 09 May.

Candidates will need to be available all day. We will pay for hotel accommodation (if needed) and reasonable travel expenses from your term-time address, including for international candidates. If you will be travelling from outside the European Economic Area, we will book air travel to keep costs down.

During the morning, candidates will be interviewed by a panel of group leaders, will find out more about the Crick and our PhD programme, and have the opportunity to talk to current students. In the afternoon candidates will visit individual labs to discuss the possibility of doing a PhD there.

After the interviews, group leaders will decide who they would like to make an offer to. All interviewees will be notified of the final outcome of their application by the end of May 2019.
