Bioinformatics Summer Internship 2024 With Hands-On-Training + Project / Dissertation - 30 Days, 3 Months & 6 Months Duration

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) proposes to organize two separate Research Methodology workshops – Southern and Northern regions for young and middle level faculty members/researchers working in medical colleges and health research institutions. The objectives of the workshop will be

1. To explain the basic concepts in epidemiology and bio-statistics related to research methods
2. To provide training in designing bio-medical and health research studies among human participants.
3. To undertake hands on exercises through group work for refining prior shortlisted concept proposals enabling them to develop into full proposals and submit for possible funding.

Selection of workshop participants:

Young and middle level faculty of medical colleges, universities and research institutions of Southern and Northern States would be selected based on the concept proposals keeping in mind local/ regional / national health priorities related to communicable diseases, non communicable diseases, maternal and child health, health system research, behavioural research etc. The concept proposals may be sent in following format:

1. Title
2. Aims and Objectives (not more than two objectives)
3. Rationale/Justification (not more than 300 words)
4. Brief Methodology (include study population, sample size, study design,
plan of analysis) not exceeding 800 words
5. Tentative Budget not exceeding

Rs.15 lakhs for the total duration of three years
6. Expected outcomes not exceeding 100 words
7. National relevance not exceeding 100 words
8. Brief bio-sketch of the PI not exceeding

Process of evaluation of concept proposals:

The concept proposals would be screened based on the

1. Novelty, applicability and justification for research
2. Work carried out by PI/ institution till now/ competence of PI
3. Work proposed to be carried out in next three years.
4. Infrastructure, staff available, grants received till now, publication if any in the
area of proposed research
5. Budget requirement

About the workshop:

The workshop for the young and middle level faculty members, whose concept
proposal would be shortlisted, would be conducted in collaboration with ICMR-NIE,
Chennai (for Southern region) and to be selected (for Northern region).

How many and how to apply:

Each medical college/research institution is requested to submit a maximum of high
priority five proposals. An expert committee will short list upto 10 proposals per
region for further development during workshops. A team of 3-4 investigators from
the shortlisted proposals will be invited for the workshop. Any individual with the
skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research is
invited to work with their institution to develop an application for support. Individuals
from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with
disabilities are always encouraged to apply for this program.

Steps of submission:

Initially concept proposal should be submitted online following ICMR
guidelines : www.icmr.nic.in .To submit a proposal online, please follow the following
steps:

1. Go to ICMR website  www.icmr.nic.in
2. Go to online submission of extramural research proposal OR Go to www.icmrextramural.in
3. Click on new user for registering yourself as project investigator (PI). PI
already registered need not register again
4. Using the user ID and password begin submission of proposal by clicking on
advertisement
5. Enter title of the call: Call for proposal under Young and Middle level Faculty
Development Programme
6. Click on broad are as Research Methodology, select Research Methodology as discipline
7. Call start date: 22nd August 2017
8. Call end date: 15th October 2017
9. Major discipline: Research Methodology

Eligibility:

a) Age of the Principal Investigator: 40 years or below or those who have not
crossed 10 years after completing PhD/MD/MS/MDS

b) The Young Faculty must have ‘a regular position in the following Institute’

 Govt. institutions such as universities, medical colleges.
 State government health institutions
 Private institutions such as universities, medical colleges having DSIR
certificates

c) Grants received for this program may not be used to support thesis or
dissertation research.
d) Individuals who have been funded for pilot and feasibility studies through their
own institutes (intramural) may also apply.

Expected outcome:

At the end of the workshop for Southern and Northern region, it is expected that 10
full length proposals by the young and middle level faculty/researchers, are
developed which will be considered for funding under special category.

Tentative dates for holding Research Methodology Workshop would be in the last
week of November, 2017 for Southern region and 1st week of December, 2017 for
Northern region.

Tentative date for start of proposals may be last week of January 2018.
