All you people out there who have never been able to stick to a diet, this piece is going to get you reaching for those measuring bowls!

According to a new study certain people on a low-carb diet feel euphoric, think clearly and additionally are able to achieve why started dieting in the first place- shed stubborn pounds.

A very low-carb diet is observed to flip the metabolic switch to start burning carbs. This tricks the body to assume that it’s starving, and once it uses up most of the carb reserves stored, the body stimulates the breakdown of stored fat into fatty acids releasing them into the blood.

When fatty acids in the blood stream reach the liver they’re converted into acetoacetate which breaks down to give carbon dioxide and acetone. The liver at this stage restricts the loss of acetone lost through the lungs by converting acetoacetate to a stable substance, called beta-hydroxybutyrate or BHB, before the degradation.

And since BHB is similar to the recreational drug, GHB in chemical composition, the two have now been found to induce similar effects in the brain as well.

Unfortunately, studies have been carried out regarding feelings of euphoria experienced by

low-carb dieters till date. Therefore, making this whole concept more or less of a speculation.

But, if a research is indeed conducted, an image of the brain activity would be the way to go, which could later be compared to people adopting a normal diet.
