Start date and duration : 2 October 2017 for 3 years (PhD only).

Application closing date : 5th of June 2017 at 5.00pm.

Overview

The aim of the PhD is to test the hypothesis that certain environmental factors are needed to precipitate the rare kidney disease atypical haemolytic ureamic syndrome (aHUS) using a unique comparative model. You will be part of the National Renal Complement Therapeutics centre; based in the Complement Therapeutics Research Group’s and the new Immunology, Inflammation and Immunotherapy theme laboratories.

We will measure kidney function, in the model compared to controls, during infectious responses or immunological stress or autoimmune diseases via biochemistry and immune-phenotyping techniques (ELISA, Flow cytometry and Immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence). This research will provide information that can be used to improve patient care/management and provide the best model for the pre-clinical testing anti-complement therapeutics.
