A) Ph.D.

Candidates with Sponsorship / deputation from Government of India / State Govt. Institutions / Universities, candidates with Fellowships from Government Agencies like UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT (JRF/SRF only) and Permanent employees / tenured employees of NIMHANS can also apply for Ph.D. in the following departments of this Institute which will be considered at the discretion of the competent authority for Entrance Test and interview to be held during the month of March and June respectively.

NOTE: Candidates applying for Ph.D. with Fellowships from UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT (JRF/SRF only) are exempted from the Entrance Test. All the candidates have to attend an interview and qualify by obtaining a minimum of 50% marks to be eligible for admission into the Ph.D. programme. Mere qualifying in Entrance test and interview does not entitle admission to Ph.D. course. Selection is subject to availability of eligible Guides in the respective departments.

(The duration of M.Phil, M.Sc and MPH courses will be two years)

Common for all Courses: The qualifying degrees for all the above mentioned courses should be from a University recognized by NIMHANS. For Medical qualification the degree should be recognized by the Medical Council of India. The Candidates should have obtained not less than 55% of Marks in the aggregate of the Master’s degree for non-medical courses.

A relaxation of 5% on the aggregate of marks obtained will be given for non-medical and Ph.D. courses in respect of SC/ST candidates.

10% relaxation in the qualifying marks of the Entrance Test will be given for all Post Doctoral Fellowship courses for the Sponsored/Deputed Candidates.

*Sponsored and Deputed candidate/s means permanent employees sponsored/deputed by the State/Central Government or Public Sector undertaking of State/Central Government.

All Foreign Nationals (Holding Passports of Countries other than India), Non Resident Indians and Overseas Citizen of India should apply under Foreign National category only. They shall appear for a common entrance test along with the other candidates. Admission will be subject to the candidate obtaining “No Objection Certificate for pursuing the course applied” from Government of India.

Sponsorship for Ph.D for Foreign Nationals is permitted only from Governmental Organizations, recognized Universities and National Scholarships of any reputed/recognized organization will be considered. No other source of funding will be considered.

# Candidates sponsored by the NGO’s also can apply for this course. The sponsorship letter should be in the NIMHANS prescribed format as shown under Sponsorship Certificate. If no candidates are qualified under Medical category, the seats will be filled by the Candidates from the Non-Medical category and vice-versa.

F) GUIDELINES:

For Medical courses, the candidate should have completed compulsory rotation internship of one year after MBBS or its equivalent as recognized by Medical Council of India on or before the date of commencement of course i.e., 1st July 2017. A certificate to that effect has to be produced. The candidate should have permanent registration with State Medical Council. Candidates who do not submit the certificate of completion of internship on the day of admission to the course will not be admitted under any circumstance.

Candidates who have MD/MS/DNB/DPM from a recognized University or from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto by NIMHANS and by the Medical Council of India may apply for the course. Candidates who are awaiting the results may also appear for the entrance test subject to production of proof of having passed the examination on or before the date of admission to the course.

For Non-Medical courses, candidates should bring the results of their qualifying examination as on the date of Counseling/Interview.

H) INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Application forms for all the courses are available online at the NIMHANS website www.nimhans.ac.in The applications have to be filled online and submitted online. APPLICATIONS WITH ENCLOURES WILL BE RECEIVED ONLINE ONLY. ABSTRACT NEED NOT BE SENT SEPARATELY.

2. A candidate can apply for a maximum of three (3) courses only, provided they are eligible.

3. The Application fee is Rs.1500/- per course for General candidates and Rs.1000/- per course for SC/ST candidates for each course. The payment is to be made online only with Debit/ Credit Cards and/or online transfer. Other mode of payment including Demand Draft will not be accepted at any cost.

4. In addition to the online application, sponsored/deputed candidates should submit their application through proper channel and they should also appear for the Common Entrance Test. The candidates should produce the sponsorship/deputation certificate in the prescribed format and should be uploaded along with the online application.

5. AGE LIMIT: For PG Medical and Superspeciality courses, age should not be more than 32 years for MBBS degree holders and 35 for PG Medical degree holders. Age is relaxable by a maximum of 5 years in the case of SC/ST candidates and by a maximum of 3 years for OBC candidates as on the date of commencement of courses. Age should not be more than 45 years as on the date of commencement of courses in case of sponsored / deputed candidates. Employees of NIMHANS applying for Ph.D should have at least 10 years of service left before registering for Ph.D. Age is calculated as on 1.7.2017.

I) GUIDELINES FOR ONLINE ENTRANCE TEST:

The Entrance Test will be held online (i.e., computer based). The seven cities identified for conduct of ON-LINE Entrance Test in the year 2017 are BENGALURU, CHENNAI, COCHIN, HYDERABAD in the South, PUNE in the West, DELHI in the North, and KOLKATA in the East. There may be multiple test centres in these cities and NIMHANS reserves the right to distribute applicants to any test centre. A candidate has to select three cities, for taking examination, in the order of priority, i.e., 1st choice, 2nd choice and 3rd choice. However, the choice of City for taking examination, or center in a given city, cannot be claimed as a matter of right. Under exceptional circumstances like lack of minimum number of applicants for a given center in a given city, NIMHANS reserves the right to cancel the choice of city / center.

THE ENTRANCE TEST FOR ALL THE COURSES WILL BE HELD AT ALL THE CENTERS ACROSS INDIA

1. Common Entrance Test will be conducted for MD in Psychiatry, Ph.D in Clinical Neurosciences, DM in Neurology and M.Ch. in Neurosurgery courses for candidates with MBBS degree qualification.
2. Common Entrance Test will be conducted for DM in Neuroanaesthesia and PDF in Neuroanaesthesia courses.
3. Common Entrance Test will be conducted for DM in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and PDF in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry courses.
4. Common Entrance Test will be conducted for DM in Neuropathology and PDF in Neuropathology courses.
5. Common Entrance Test will be conducted for all the 10 PDF courses under Psychiatry and choice of course will be given to those candidates based on the order of merit in the entrance examination those i.e., the candidate securing highest marks will have the first option of selecting any of the 10 PDF courses till all the seats are filled.
6. Common Entrance Test will be conducted for all the 5 PDF courses under Neurology and choice of course will be given to those candidates based on the order of merit in the entrance examination those i.e., the candidate securing highest marks will have the first option of selecting any of the 5 PDF courses till all the seats are filled.
7. There will be a single Entrance Test for DM in Neuropathology and PDF in Neuropathology. A separate Entrance test will be conducted for PDF in Transfusion Medicine.
8. Common Entrance Test will be conducted for M.Phil in Biophysics, M.Phil in Neurophysiology and M.Phil in Neurosciences courses.

A mock test demo will be hosted on the NIMHANS website 15 days prior to the Online Entrance Test. The Online Entrance Test
will be conducted for 2 days at all the Test Centres across the country.

In the event of unforeseen problem/force majeure, a re-exam will be held at a later date only for those who attended the abandoned exam. NIMHANS reserves the right to decide whether the re-exam relates to one or more cities, or one or more
center, or one or more courses.

Possession/use of Mobile Phones/Electronic Devices/Spy Cameras/ Bluetooth is strictly prohibited on the premises of NIMHANS Entrance Test centres and candidates shall be liable for penal action for any such act.

All the Candidates applying for admission to any course at NIMHANS, should give a declaration stating that “I fulfil all the eligibility criteria and I am applying for the courses at NIMHANS. I understand that my candidature will be cancelled if I am fould to have given wrong information. I also substantiate my claim by attaching necessary certificates”

Candidates possessing PG qualification in Medicine (MD/DNB) and Surgery (MS/DNB) will be considered only under PG category for DM in Neurology and M.Ch. in Neurosurgery courses respectively. If they apply under MBBS category, their candidature will be disqualified.

Incomplete applications, applications without the mandatory attachment will be rejected. Applications without sufficient payment will also be rejected. The payment of the application fee of the rejected candidates will not be returned at any cost. No communication will be given against the rejected applications. No interim enquiry or correspondence will be entertained. Candidates called for Entrance test and Counseling must be present at the venue within the stipulated time failing which they will not be considered for Entrance Test or Counseling at any cost.

NIMHANS reserves its absolute rights to modify/alter/amend the admission guidelines.

Eligible candidates must take printout of their Admit Card for the Entrance Test from NIMHANS website only. Admit Card will not be sent by post. List of qualified candidates for interview/counseling will be notified on the Institute’s Notice Board and Website. No separate individual intimation will be given. The decision of the Director in all matters regarding selection will be final and no representation in any form will be entertained.
