Qualcomm and Philips Partner For Betterment of Personalized Health

Philips and Qualcomm are teaming up to advance connected health, with the former contributing connected health informatics and cloud data management and the latter pitching in secure connectivity and integration.

The partnership will see Philips’ HealthSuite, a cloud-based platform integrating health data from a variety of devices, joining Qualcomm Life’s 2net Platform. This will give HealthSuite users “seamless access” to even more connected medical devices, including medication dispensers, ventilators, blood pressure monitors and blood glucose meters, according to a statement.

With the addition of more connected devices, HealthSuite will allow users to build a “fuller patient profile” over longer time periods and to customize and scale connected care schemes. Integrating with the 2net Platform will help healthcare providers better engage with their patients and facilitate early intervention, personalization of treatment plans and ultimately improve patient outcomes, according to the statement.

As the home is fast becoming a viable care setting, care providers, home health agencies, and other institutions are increasingly using connected care to reduce emergency care, readmissions of patients with chronic diseases,” said Jeroen Tas, CEO of connected care and health informatics at Philips, in the statement.

HealthSuite will provide Qualcomm Life with a global, secure data storage and management platform, which Qualcomm customers may leverage to build apps, integrate with electronic medical records and run analytics, among other uses.

Philips revealed plans for its consumer and connected health offerings last fall, part of its bid to refocus itself on consumer and health products. At the time, it unveiled 5 devices and an app that connected to the HealthSuite Digital Platform. It has since partnered with Validic on integrating data from third-party devices and apps into HealthSuite, and has kicked off a 13-country study gauging the world’s readiness for connected health.

As for Qualcomm, it joined forces with Boehringer Ingelheim this week to increase adherence to COPD treatment using the latter’s connected inhaler.
