Contractual Recruitment of 01 Project Associate-II under the DST-SERB funded Project
Applications are invited for the post of PA-II personnel on a contractual basis (Indian national only) for one year from the date of engagement, with a possibility of extension up to three years based on the candidate’s performance under the project. The positions are temporary/contractual and co-terminus with the project.

The selected candidates will be required to undertake extensive travel to various regions, including Chamba and Lahual-Spiti in Himachal Pradesh, as well as other locations per the project needs, including headquarters in Kolkata. Travel assignments may involve extensive field trips to remote locations in the IHR.
BELIEF ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The Himalayas, being the world’s youngest and arguably most vulnerable mountain system, is home to diverse faunal species facing threats from developmental activities, habitat loss, and climate change. Understanding faunal resources and their response to anthropogenic pressure and climatic conditions is crucial for effective conservation and management. The proposed project aims to address the pressing challenges faced by bear species of the Indian Himalayan region (IHR) through a comprehensive and strategic approach.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
- To estimate the population density and coexistence of Asiatic black bear and Himalayan brown bear in Dhauladhar Wildlife Sanctuary.
- To assess the seasonal feeding habits of Asiatic black bear and Himalayan brown bear in Dhauladhar Wildlife Sanctuary.
- To assess bear-human conflict and map the hotspot zones in the study landscape for conservation and management.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
- Interviews will be held for candidate selection at the Zoological Survey of India, Headquarters, M-Block, New Alipore, Kolkata – 700053, West Bengal. The date and time of the interview will be separately communicated to the shortlisted candidates.
- The application for the advertised position will undergo screening, and only shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. Selection will be based on interview performance and merit. Meeting the prescribed qualifications does not guarantee an interview invitation. Any attempt to conceal, misrepresent, or canvas facts will result in disqualification.
- Selected candidates will be posted anywhere per project requirements and must join within two weeks of selection.

DETAILS OF THE POSITIONS ADVERTISED
Position: Project Associate II (AAIII)
Number of positions: 1
Monthly Emoluments: ₹35,000/- + HRA as per DST norms for candidates qualified in CSIR/UGC NET, GATE, or other national-level examinations. Candidates not in these categories will receive ₹28,000/- + HRA per month as per DST norms.
Essential Qualifications:
- Master’s degree with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Zoology/Wildlife Science/Bioinformatics/Life Sciences, or equivalent degrees from a UGC-recognized university.
- Minimum of 2 years of research experience in conducting field surveys in wildlife sciences.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in data collection through basic field techniques such as camera trapping, sign surveys, questionnaire surveys, and vegetation sampling.
- Knowledge of molecular techniques.
- Experience in using statistical software such as R programs and statistical data analysis (e.g., species distribution modeling, occupancy modeling, GLM) as well as experience in GIS and remote sensing methods.
- Proficiency in scientific writing.
Work Description:
Candidates will be required to conduct field surveys in the study landscape to collect data on bears to address the project objectives. They will also assist in data entry, data analysis, article and report writing, and undertake any other tasks assigned by the PI under the project.
Maximum Age: 35 years. Upper age limit may be relaxed per Government of India rules and regulations for SC/OBC/ST candidates.
