Applications are invited, in the prescribed format, for online examinations and the award of JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS [JRF 2020] for PhD in Life Sciences at the Tata Memorial Centre.
The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) is an autonomous Grant-in-aid Institution at the Department of Atomic Energy. The TMC is comprised of the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) and the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH). TMC conducts a PhD program in Life Sciences and is affiliated to the Homi Bhabha National Institute (Deemed University). On-going research at TMC includes basic and translational
research in Cancer Biology. Specific research topics include the study of cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, metastasis, tumour immunology, molecular imaging, carcinogenesis, stem cell biology, biophysics, structural biology, bioinformatics, proteomics, genomics, genetics, epigenetics and pharmacology.Qualifications: M.Sc (Applied Biology / Biochemistry / Bioinformatics / Biophysics / Biotechnology / Botany / Life Sciences / Microbiology/ Molecular Biology / Zoology or associated Biological Sciences) / M.Tech. (Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology); M.V.Sc.; M.Pharm. from a recognized University, with ≥ 55% aggregate marks. Those awaiting results may also apply. According to HBNI guidelines, candidates with < 55% aggregate marks can’t be considered for an interview or admitted to the program. Candidates who’ve done post-graduation course of only 1-year duration aren’t eligible.
Stipend: Rs. 31000/- + 24 percent HRA (if hostel facility isn’t allotted) a month as applicable. Limited hostel facility is on the ACTREC campus on a first-come, first-served basis.
Application Process: Candidates are advised to thoroughly read the instructions before completing the online application [https://tmc.gov.in/jrf2020/]. Incomplete forms and those with no fees and requisite attachments will be rejected. Application fees of Rs. 500/must be compensated by online transfer. In the event of difficulty, fees may be paid by demand draft (DD) drawn in favour of TMC-ACTREC payable Navi Mumbai (candidate’s name and program number should be written behind the DD) and sent to ACTREC-TMC by courier or speed post at the address provided. Female applicants and SC/ ST/ physically disabled applicants with a minimum of 40% handicap (disability proof has to be attached) are exempted from paying fees. Students have to give three choices of Exam Centre within their application. Final admission into the PhD program is subject to the candidate satisfying HBNI eligibility criteria as stated above. TMC reserves the right to raise the minimum eligibility standards in the event of receipt of a large number of applications. The deadline for application is 28th November 2019.
Online Examination: A list of applicants found eligible for the Online’Objective’ Written Exam will be displayed on 10th December 2019 on the ACTREC site. The Online Exam will be conducted on 29th December 2019 at 9.00 a.m. At ten Exam Centres located in Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi NCR, Indore, Guwahati, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Varanasi and Chenna (details will be uploaded on The ACTREC site in December 2019). In case the number of students opting for a centre is under 75, the students Opting for that centre will be accommodated at their second or third choice of centre. The list of candidates Qualifying for interview based on the online examination results will be displayed on the ACTREC site in January 2020.
Eligibility for Direct Interview (Online application for ACTREC JRF 2020 is required )
- Candidates holding legitimate Junior Research Fellowships granted after qualifying in a national level written Entrance test conducted by CSIR/ UGC/ ICMR/ DBT or other established agencies.
- Candidates that receive external fellowship intimation by 30th April 2020 should send proof of this award by email [[email protected]] to seek direct interview dates.
- Candidates that feature in ACTREC’s short list of the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) that will be displayed on the ACTREC site.
The listing of candidates found eligible for a direct interview is going to be displayed on the ACTREC site in March 2020.
Interview Dates: Interviews of applicants that have cleared the ACTREC entrance test in Addition to Direct Interviews Will be conducted at ACTREC in June 2020 — the dates will be displayed on the ACTREC site in May 2020.
Research Projects: The list of JRF projects being offered to PhD students at TMC will be displayed on the ACTREC site in May 2020. Candidates are invited to interact with and seek information from the Principal Investigators whose titles and e-mail IDs will be cited against their respective projects.
Declaration of the Results: The list of successful applicants will be shown on the ACTREC site.
