Philips Acquires Mayo Spun out Dutch Analytics Company to boost eHealth

A global leader in health technology, Royal Philips, has now acquired VitalHealth, a leading provider of cloud-based population health management solutions for the delivery of personalized care outside of the hospital, for example, in regional care networks.

Founded in 2006 by Mayo Clinic (US) and Noaber Foundation (the Netherlands), VitalHealth’s products and services are being used by more than 100 healthcare networks in various countries including the US, India, China, Sweden, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Financial information regarding the acquisition wasn’t disclosed.

In a statement, VitalHealth CEO Laurens van der Tang said that his company’s solutions will complement Philips’: “We are delighted and proud to become part of Philips. Our digital health solutions are highly complementary to the ones that Philips provides. Together, we have the potential to become the undisputed global leader in population health management.

The acquisition will add VitalHealth’s portfolio of telehealth applications and its care coordination platform for care providers which is designed to integrate patient information across care settings and aggregate data from disparate information systems, Philips said.

This strategic acquisition complements our current offering in population health management, and supports our commitment to deliver integrated solutions for care providers and patients to improve people’s health. As a pioneer in comprehensive population health management solutions, we are committed to help drive business transformation for providers, health systems, employers, and payers transitioning to value-based care. VitalHealth will help us deliver on that commitment by strengthening our offering for care coordination, outcome management and patient engagement,

” Philips connected care & health informatics chief business leader Carla Kriwet said.

Together with the VitalHealth’s portfolio of solutions, the company’s Wellcentive solution will enable healthcare providers to better identify and deal with high-risk and high-cost patient populations. This apart, the company also recently acquired Forcare, a leading innovator in open-standards-based interoperability software solutions as it seeks to fortify clinical informatics portfolio.

Philips has been expanding its population health management business to capitalise on the growing demand for healthcare services that can improve the health of the overall population, reducing hospital admissions as a result.

Philips already enjoys a dominant position as a comprehensive clinical informatics solutions provider and believes this buyout will enable it to deliver more effective and seamlessly integrated informatics solutions. This will also facilitate the company to improve patient care, clinical workflow as well as optimize enterprise management.
